Lucas hails from a realm known as Altoria, a surreal land of magic and mystery. Rather than planets and stars, land here is represented by many thousands of islands that float about within a colorful cosmic void of ancient magical energies. This void is called the aether, and right at the center of it is a gigantic rift in spacetime that provides the realm with all the magic energies needed for life to exist. Not much at all is certain with Altoria, as its magical nature does make scientific examination difficult. What is known is baffling and strange, but deeply fascinating nonetheless.
Exclaves, the islands of land that float in the void, vary greatly in size and appearance. The smallest of these can only be a few meters across, while the largest can contain hundreds of thousands of kilometers of land area. Often times exclaves are bundled up fairly closely in archipelagos, with short enough distance between them that one could easily and quickly fly from island to island through one mean or another. Exclaves have their own unique self-contained atmospheres, weather cycles, and biomes which are all fed and powered by the Great Central Rift which provides ancient magics to the realm. These magics react to the land in these exclaves and create atmospheres, usually breathable, with day/night cycles and weather patterns. The closer you are to the Great Central Rift, the more synchronized day/night cycles are.
The aether itself consists of a massive, swirling, scintillating miasma of ancient magical energies which provide exclaves with life. These energies are difficult to study given their nature, but what is known is that they are responsible for weather patterns, seasons, and for providing magics needed for life to flourish in nature. This energy cannot be captured or stored with modern magitechnology, but it does make for stellar sunsets as seen here!
I'm still working on the details of the lore and workings of Altoria itself, but here's a lovely look at the land itself courtesy of
