Like other duck-billed dinosaurs, parasaurolophs could move on both two and four limbs. They probably preferred to graze on four limbs, and run on two. The spinous processes of the vertebrae were very long, the longest on the hips, they increased the height of the back. A distinctive feature was the crest on the back of the head. When the lizard closed the nasal valves and exhaled into the nose, the air got into the comb and made a humming sound. These sounds could serve as a means of communication of parasaurolophs with each other.
