I thought it was high time I revisited an old alien species of mine and give it a fresh pic and a fresh look. So here we have Kawa of the Florkata once again.

The Florkata unlike most sentient beings in teh Galaxy are actually descended from Flora rather then Fauna. These Sentient plants have a superb affinity for other plants and as such have always been good stewards of their world. Their affinity with plants has also lead to much of their modern technology being biological in nature. Florkata like most plants can conduct photosynthesis. They can still eat and drink to sustain themselves though. That said they still do require regular UV exposure. Their process of Photosynthesis also produces a key neural transmitter. When deprived of sunlight for a long period of time this combined with psychological effects of light deprivation can cause what has been termed "Nocturne Madness." Symptoms include paranoia, anxiety, diminished reasoning, and increased aggression. Sometimes subjects can seem positively feral. They however can be treated by injecction of the neural transmitter and through heavy exposure to UV for an extended period of time. Psychological scarring however will require significantly longer to mend. Light plays a large role in their culture. Many plants on their world are bioluminescent. Florkata however are able to generate light through a telepathic ability. This light can be used as a visual means of communication or by trained individuals as a weapon. The light can be focused into a high intensity laser.

Kawa here is a young teen Florkata with quite a long life ahead of him. Outgoing and friendly to all he is training his light abilities with master artisans. He hopes one day to perform great artistic feats with it. At the moment he's working on using focused laser light to create sculptures. When he needs inspiration it's fairly common to find him out for a run in the park. Maybe even down by the lake taking a swim. Florkata dress code is fairly lax. Kawa here is dressed amply for his day. Their world's warm weather and his species natural photosynthetic abilities dictate a minimal wardrobe. Kawa here only sports a bio computer and a diaper. Kawa's diaper needs are due an old childhood injury. An offworld animal that had escaped into the park caused said injury. Despite this Kawa still is his same old upbeat self. He doesn't really remember the incident that well. Teasing and ridicule is minimal most of the time. What with the Sokee systems being a close neighbor this type of dress code is not uncommon.
