Gas masks!
Between, and even on planets there are many hazards to the lungs and eyes. From chemical spills to mysterious gasses floating or lying on the ground, having a basic knowledge of gas masks is a must.
US-GM
Universal Species Gas Masks
Perhaps the simplest design of the bunch, but it is made to be so. Should any printing services be unavailable, this design is meant to copied and created at ground level with simple tools. A rubber polymerized fabric, canvas in this instance serves as the barrier from the outside atmosphere, given enough time all of these components can be hand made and sewn together. The filter cartridge comes with four exhale ports, as well as a large carbon filter in the center. In emergency situations the filter can be opened and resewn together, allowing the carbon element to be replaced easily.
The Siluminium bubble lenses are made with a mixture of aluminium, silicon and quartz. While a dull grey after casting, heavy polishing makes the metallic eye protection clear as master-crafted glass. Once polished the surface can be heat tempered to maintain a shatter-proof and heavily resistant to any abrasions. These lenses will outlast the canvas mask, and can easily be sewn and sealed into a newer canvas replacement.
The universal aspect comes from the simple face design and large, long tube to fit any head form or muzzle size. The long sleeve has the capability to be pulled closer to the muzzle with a strap and belt to prevent the swaying of the filter. Either position is irrelevant to the filtration, rather a comfort option for the wearer.
N-GM
Nano Gas Mask
While the US-GM is crude in its appearance, the N-GM is the polar opposite. The Nano created masks feature seamless encapsulation, as well as chemical and thermal resistances. Several variations are employed, some with external filters, others with smaller nano-assisted filters. The largest similarity between the two most popular models is the tintable and removable face plates. The bubble helm offers full facial access, while the cartridge based keeps the breathing manifold 'wings' on either side of the muzzle. To maintain a total seal, these masks will have ear monitors to keep any air from the auditory canals from pressurizing inside or leaking out.
This mask is most commonly used in conjunction with the full isolation suit, but can be printed on as the mask hood alone. This mask alone is space-rated, with applicable oxygen system connectors easily snapped into place.
SGM
Speciated Gas Mask
While above the US-GM in manufacturing 'quality', it is quite a far cry from the N-GM for long term wear. The speciated designs mean that each mask is meant for a particular head shape, equine can't wear a feline mask, et al. You'll most commonly find these as personal masks, printed for the sole wearer, but capable of using the C-2 and C-1 filters, given adapter hoses. A shaped rubber polymer mask and a large frontal grill are the main points to the mask. It also features an internal muzzle cup and Siluminium bubble eyes for ease of visibility, as well as the materials' long service life.
