What kind of brushes/technique do you use to paint things like stone? It has such rich and realistic...the best way I can describe it is texture, or color jitter. I don't mean the highlights, lowlights, or reflected light I just mean basic stone texture. I feel like the brushes I use don't have the ability to replicate real brush texture, they just produce flat colors that don't emulate the hue and brightness differences in rock.
To show a convincing surface you need to know how it interacts with the light, draw realistic shadows and light, then, if necessary, add cracks, chips, moss or lichens. If you ask me about magic brushes and textures, I have to disappoint you because I have worked with a single brush that I can paint any material with, be it glass, water, gold, fur and feathers, etc.
