Ch 5
A low rumble woke Wolfen up the next morning. Outside dark clouds loomed, but the rumble had not come from them. Slowly opening his eyes he was surprised to find his blanket had turned a creamy tan color, rising above his head as he laid back. It was only when he heard another grumble that he realized that it was his belly sticking up in front of him. He smiled tiredly as he rubbed it, remembering the events that led up to it. Closing his eyes again he felt the warmth and plushness of his fat. He reveled in the moment for a moment before he heard breathing, not just one but from two sources. Looking around, he could only see his belly and whatever pillows were on his sides. He shifted slightly and heard a slight snort as a result. He pushed himself up to get a better look. At first all he could find was that his chest had plumped out enough for it to be sagging over the sides of his belly. After taking another look, he found green and blue tails on either side of his belly.
“It’s too early for this… Get up!” he bellowed. There was some movement and another snort before Furore poked his blue head over Wolfen’s stomach.
“Huh, wha?” Furore yawned. “Oh, morning.” He rubbed Wolfen’s gut before laying his head on it.
“What are you doing?” Wolfen asked. Furore blinked sleepily first before explaining.
“Well last night Serin and I didn’t feel like sleeping in our own beds and remembered how comfy you looked.” He smiled. “So we came in here and tried to sleep on your belly here. You were on your side then so we managed to climb on top, but you kept moving! You even smooshed us a few times, though it did feel kinda good.” Just then Serin also woke up with a wide yawn before also laying on Wolfen’s belly.
“Hey guys…” he said tiredly. “Time for breakfast time yet?” Furore chuckled.
“Yeah, were gonna have breakfast right here.” Furore sniggered back, spreading his arms over Wolfen.
“Pretty soft for a table.” Serin continued.
“Just move.” Wolfen said as he sat up more. Using some of his power, he lifted his bloated body from his bed and set himself on the ground between the two dragons. “Now we can have breakfast.”
“I’m not making it.” yawned Furore.
“Ok fine, I’ll do it. I do make a mean bowl of cereal.” Serin joked as they padded down the stairs into the kitchen. Once again, Greed already occupied the couch as they arrived.
“How do you keep getting in here?” Wolfen asked rubbing his eyes.
“Eh, these human alarms don’t like dragons enough to go off. Anyway,” Greed got up off the couch, “we’re going to get an early start today; I don’t want to miss my shows tonight because you were going too slowly. Now come on, were heading out.”
“What about breakfast?” Serin yawned. Greed looked back at him.
“You should know me enough to figure that out.” He patted his paunch. “We’ll be at the buffet all day, so let’s go kid.” He directed to Wolfen.
“Ok, I’ll be there in a minute, gotta get the paper and stuff.” With that, he exited the house and waddled down his driveway, his entire body jiggling with every step. The paper was not in its usual place today but far off in the grass next to the row of bushes that divided his yard from his other neighbor’s. He bent down to pick it up.
Something hard cracked the back of his head. Wolfen was knocked out.
Cold. It was cold. The air, its cool touch sat on his body as if it had nowhere else to go. Wolfen opened his eyes. All he saw was dark. He got scared. The dark coupled with his unknown location filled his heart with fear. He tried to move. All he found was his fat arms and legs were bound by metal to the unseen floor. He tried to cast a spell.
“Dragon’s art: the art of light.” he said frightened. Nothing happened, his own fear preventing his magic. Wolfen became depressed. He sat on the floor, chains rattling behind him. Where am i? he thought. What am I doing in a place like this? Where are my friends? At that thought, his eyes started to well with tears. Where are my friends? he thought again. Tears now dropped from his eyes as the few memories of his new friendship ran through his head. Did they know I’m missing? Were they worried about me? Will they find me? He thought about his friends for an uncounted time. Tears continued to drop from his eyes at a steady rate as his sadness and uncertainty grew with each passing moment. It was a while before a single light turned on above him, then fizzled out a few moments later. Wolfen looked up as he heard something in the distance.
“Hey, what happened?” someone asked.
“You were supposed to replace the bulb dumbass.” went another voice.
“Shut up Mario.” said a third. Wolfen could hear footsteps before a bright light flared into existence above his head. Looking up, he saw it was a bright orb of light floating just above him. It floated up as a figure entered the light.
“Hey fatty.” It was Rex. Wolfen turned from scared to terrified. He remembered back to the night he had met him at the restaurant and his horror increased.
“Wh… what do you want with me?” he trembled.
“Well first I want to repay you for that one night.” Rex said before his tail snaked out and caught him across the face. Wolfen cried out at the sudden blow. “Oh, don’t worry. There’s more where that came from.” he said and repeated the strike. “After I flew through that window and you ran away, I realized that you’ve got something I want.” Wolfen only could tremble. “Your power.” he finished greedily. “If you haven’t noticed, you’ve got a hidden power that I want. You see this?” Rex turned to show that he also had four horns, but the extra two were gold and not white. “Years ago I killed and took the power of another dragon like you. Unfortunately all I got was the second rate deal. But when I take your power,” he smiled evilly, “I’ll be complete. Once I do that, I think I’ll go ahead and kill your fat friends too, before you have a chance to eat them yourself.” Wolfen reluctantly looked up from his sadness at Rex, his face an angry scowl.
“Hehe, good one boss.” came the first voice from far behind him.
“Shut up Mario!” Wolfen stood up.
“Never.” he said quietly.
“You think you can do something about it? Huh fatty?” Rex asked mockingly.
“You will not touch them.” Wolfen received a hard blow to his face again and was knocked to the floor. Rex continued his onslaught, punching and kicking at Wolfen who was unable to do anything about it. By the time he had finished, Wolfen was covered in bruises and bleeding cuts. He lay there panting and in pain as Rex stood up.
“All that power in this worthless yellow blob. Pathetic.”
“I didn’t seem so pathetic that night.” Wolfen managed to respond, despite his hurt.
“Huh, forget killing your friends. I think I’ll make them suffer beforehand, and you’ll get to watch. Then I’ll kill them then you and take this world as my own.”
“You’ll never win.” Wolfen coughed.
“Well at least not until I take your power first!” he said and was about to rake him with his claws for a final strike when something tackled him from the side. Rex loosed a shout and light burst forth from high above. Wolfen saw, through his teary eyes, that they were in a large warehouse. He looked over to see his savior.
It was Erstra.
“How dare you do that to Wolfen!” he shouted between his punches. Far off on the wall, Serin and Furore were scuffling with Rex’s minions. Greed was nowhere to be seen. Wolfen was suddenly picked up by a strong pair of hands. Those hands moved on to break his bindings.
“You ok?” Wolfen could tell it was Greed, although he did not respond but nodded. “Well you don’t look it.” he chuckled. Free from his bindings, Wolfen rubbed his wrists before looking up past Greed’s gut to his head. He smiled and stepped forward for a hug. “Whoa, wait until were outta here. Come on!” he called out. The others all broke off their attacks and ran to Greed. Somehow, Greed managed to lift up Wolfen and run down a narrow hall with the others, despite their weight.
“Get them!” Rex called out as his underlings tailed them, still a distance behind. For a time, all Wolfen heard were his friends’ running footsteps before Greed barged through a door and his vision was flooded with light. They were now running outside, clouds still rolled over their heads as their footsteps were muffled by sand. He focused his vision and could see that their chasers were now right on Serin and Furore. They both jumped them and again they started wrestling. Greed set Wolfen down and went to join them with Erstra. They all rolled around on the sand before they were blown apart by an explosion. Through the smoke walked Rex.
“You guys really are stupid.” he said leisurely picking up Furore and throwing him to Kasey, the buff blue dragon catching him and restrained him in his arms. He then moved to do the same with Serin, throwing him to the red dragon beside Kasey who also bound him. Rex continued to stride toward Wolfen. The yellow dragon in turn started to scoot across the sand, trying to get away.
“Stay away.” he said trembling.
“Now why would I do that?” Rex replied. “While you have what I want.” He held up his hands, both adopting a ruby glow before his claws grew from inches to feet long. He smiled at Wolfen before he lunged out at him, aiming for his chest. Again, Erstra tackled him from the side and threw him to the ground.
“Why won’t you give up?!” Erstra shouted as he strained to keep Rex on the ground. But Rex was too strong and kicked him, sending him rolling down the sand. Rex stood up again and brushed the sand off his body.
“No one will stand between me and the power I seek!” He attacked, running at Erstra at a blinding speed. He had no time to react before he raked his claws across his bloated stomach. Erstra shouted in pain before he received another strike on his side, tearing it open, but it did not end there. Rex continuously cut away at Erstra before Greed engaged and threw him to the ground.
Wolfen was barraged with waves of pain that emitted from Erstra, waves that could only be felt by his empathetic heart. As a result Wolfen got to his feet, ignoring his own pain to rush to Erstra’s side. He was covered in bloody spots, the large gash on his side releasing the most blood. Without thinking, Wolfen called out his power.
“Dragon’s art: Replenish!” He placed his hands, which were surrounded by a blue aura, over his head and heart, pouring his strength in Erstra. His power was not enough though, so he had to resort to using his own fat as an emergency medium of strength. As Erstra’s wounds grew together, Wolfen’s body shrunk. All of Erstra’s wounds sealed up as Wolfen’s body returned to its original, chubby state. He looked up from his friend to see Greed dodging Rex’s claws, and he got mad.
“Greed move!” he shouted as Greed retreated several yards. “Good thing I watch Zatch bell… Zakaruga!” Opening his mouth, Wolfen loosed a straight beam of electricity which drilled into Rex’s side. Rex snarled at Wolfen before he was hit with another spell. Now Wolfen strode toward him, his skin growing redder with each step. “I told you not to touch them. You will regret ever thinking about touching them!” His skin completely turned red and his pupils disappeared. He stood before him, his arms folded.
“You expect me to be scared? Of you?” Rex burst out laughing as he got up.
“No.” Wolfen replied sternly. “I expect you to admit your wrongdoings, or pay for them.”
“And who’s gonna make me?”
Suddenly Rex was surrounded in a blaze of fire. The halo of flames rotated around him before it shot off into the sky, piercing the clouds above. From the hole in the clouds belched a pillar of flames, enveloping Rex as he bellowed at the influx of power. Wolfen however still stood at the pillars edge, waves of energy being thrown against his barrier. The beam abruptly ended, leaving Rex flying high above them. He had grown an enormous pair of velvety wings as he hovered there. Even from that distance, Wolfen saw that Rex also lost his pupils as he smiled evilly down at them all. Rex raised his right hand, from it pulsed a large black orb. Wolfen took up a protective position in the space between Rex and his friends.
“And what do you plan to do with that?!” Wolfen called.
“This!” The orb grew in size before Rex pointed at Wolfen. The orb moved at his command, hurtling toward him. It soon contacted Wolfen’s shield, and shattered it in an instant. The orb moved on to Wolfen, who caught it in his hands without a flinch. He threw it back at the waiting Rex who slapped it away as if it was a gust of wind. The orb hurtled off into the sea and evaporated into nothingness. Rex laughed as Wolfen continued to glare at him. “Heh, nice job. And here I thought this would be boring!”
“You think this is fun?” Wolfen called back.
“What if I do?” Again Rex formed a dark orb and again Wolfen cast it back just for it to be thrown into the ocean and vaporize.
“Then I will destroy you!”
“But how will you ever do that?” Rex asked mockingly. “When I still have your friends!” At the mention of his friends, Wolfen looked down at the ground to see Greed and Erstra at a stalemate with Mario and Kasey. Rex seized the moment and struck at Wolfen with his wing, sending him into the ground. Looking up from his crater, he saw that Rex was diving towards him, his claws outstretched and ready to strike. Thinking quickly Wolfen jumped up from the crater, landing on the sand above just as Rex dived in and crashed into the ground.
“Dragon’s art: Gaia Tomb!” The earth in the crater quickly closes up around Rex and encases him entirely. Right after, the ground bucked and shattered as Rex flew at him again. Wolfen reacted by jumping into the air, trying to get away. Rex only got closer, his grimace matching his anger.
Rex punched out. Wolfen quickly blocked and returned a palm strike to his shoulder. Rex was sent spiraling through the air before he regained control. They both glared at each other as they hovered high above the ground. Rex held his right hand out to the side, in it formed a long black blade. Seeing this, Wolfen summoned his gold staff to his side. They engaged, each of them striking out with their weapon, trying to get a hit. Metal continuously met metal in a burst of yellow and red sparks, each of them battering at the other. Their midair battle ended as Wolfen managed to disarm him, sending his sword to the ground. Rex took a risky punch at Wolfen, too risky in fact. Wolfen quickly maneuvered to his side and delivered a dual palm strike to his side, sending him into the ground in a plume of dust. Wolfen steadily descended to the ground, his staff back as his ring, his arms folded. From the smoking hole stalked Rex with nothing more than a scratch.
“Face it, you’re finished.” Wolfen said. Rex started chuckling. His laughter grew maniacal. He looked up, a crazy look on his face.
“Finished? Finished! I’m far from that! I know you can’t defeat me! I know your weakness!” Rex laughed his hand to his face.
“So it seems you’ve figured me out have you?” Wolfen asked as calm as ever.
“Yes! You’re weak because…”
“Because I don’t like to fight? No, that does not make me weak.” Wolfen shook his head. “Because I care for others? Because I have a heart? No! Even in this form, my fury state, I have a heart. I have even set it upon myself to bind myself when I’m in this form. Do you know how?”
“No, I don’t.” Rex snarled.
“With my four horns came great power at a great price. The form I am in is the price I pay. With anger, rage, and fury, also comes a clouded mind. I make decisions that I will regret later while I’m in this form. It is for that reason that I have bound myself with a forbidden spell, passed down in my family for generations. It even affects me as I speak now. With this form comes also comes a great power, my spell’s power is exponentially bolstered by my rage, which is where the spell takes hold. Any spell I use, any kind at all, cannot kill anyone.” Rex was only silent for a moment before he started laughing again, much more deranged than before.
“You really are pathetic! All your talk and you can’t even kill me, all because of your own stupidity! How do you expect to defeat me when you can’t kill me?” Rex laughed again. “As long as I’m still alive, I will hunt you down until I have your power. Once I do, I will rule this world of humans. All will obey me!”
“You call me pathetic? You are the one going around with those fake horns pretending to be something you’re not! Only the truly weak and dark of heart seek power and control, for they know their impurities make it so. I am not weak, I am not pathetic, you are!” Wolfen shouted.
Rex could take no more. He lunged out in his anger and reached for Wolfen’s heart. What he got was the large aquamarine of Wolfen’s staff under his chin and the butt of the staff into his chest. “You cannot win.” Rex made another attempt, holding the same result. “Give up now.”
“Not until,” Rex struggled to his feet. “the fat dragon sings. Mario! Kasey! Take them!” Rex called back to the muscled dragons. The two threw Serin and Furore to the ground and started to beat them. Again Greed and Erstra came to their side. Just as before, Rex took Wolfen’s distraction and kneed him in the stomach before throwing him at his friends. Wolfen plowed through the crowd of dragons and landed on the sand far away. He got up, coughing and in pain. He charged Rex this time, surrounding himself in a powerful field before plowing into him.
“Hurt my friends again, and you will truly suffer my wrath!” Wolfen called out. Looking down, he took both of Rex’s minions by the horns and tossed them at him like they were no more than pebbles. But he only saw them hit the sand. Suddenly a great pain erupted from his back. His red body was sent spiraling across the ground. He slid to a stop and lay there, nearly unable to move in his pain. Tears gathered in eyes as he strained his body to move. Slowly he stood, his back still erupting with bouts of agony. In his blurred vision he saw Rex making his way towards him, his entire body encased in a red-orange fire. Serin, Furore and Greed all jumped at him, only to be cast off by a wave of his wings. Wolfen grew scared, his body taking on a matching blue as he staggered back slowly. His eyes also came back to normal as his tears broke through their dams and flowed down his face. Rex lifted one hand; a wave of fire erupted from the ground under Wolfen. He screamed in pain as Rex grew closer. Finally close enough, Rex picked Wolfen up by his head and stared into his terrified eyes.
“You said I’m weak.” He punched Wolfen with a fist harder than stone. “You said I’d never win.” Again he received a blow. “Looks like you were wrong!” He threw Wolfen to the ground as he conjured another black sword. Wolfen managed to stand, gripping his stomach as pain flowed through him. Tears streamed from his eyes as he looked up a Rex.
“No…” was all he could say. Rex smiled.
“Yes.” Rex positioned, and stabbed at Wolfen, aiming for his heart. A figure suddenly slid in front of Wolfen, its hands out in a protective way. Rex’s sword pierced the figure, his black sword protruding from the figure’s back. It cried out in agony as similar waves of pain as before emitted from the figure, and Wolfen could tell who it was who saved him.
It was Erstra.
The red dragon fell to the ground, his open wound spewing blood as he struggled to stop the flow. Wolfen, in denial and shock, bent down and touched his friend’s blood. The liquid that resides in all living beings, the liquid life as it was sometimes called, now coated his hands. He looked at his bloodied hands. He trembled and shook, unable to stop his convulsions.
“No…” was all he managed to say as he looked at his dying friend. With his heart, despite the growing waves of pain bombarding it, he looked deeper into Erstra. His very life force, the link between his mind, body and soul, was withering away. “No…” he mumbled again.
“Well, well, I guess I missed. Don’t worry, I won’t this time.” Rex said and positioned to strike again. Wolfen did not hear Rex; he was still looking at his friend’s blood that covered his hands. He stuck them down in the growing pool of it, his tears now joining the mixture.
“Erstra, no…” His life had almost completely died out. Rex lunged at Wolfen.
“This is the end!” The sword came down.
“NO!” Rex was suddenly thrown back by an invisible force. “NO!” Wolfen bellowed at the dark sky. He gripped his head with his blood covered hands and cried out in pain. “NO!” He doubled over, the pain more intense than before. “NO!” He screamed out in agony as his horns were bathed in a bright white light. Wolfen shrunk lower to the ground at his four horns all straightened out and grew to an elongated length. “NO!” Wolfen roared, and closed his eyes.
He was floating. Everywhere he looked were stars. They twinkled as he passed by them. Wolfen looked at his hands; they were clean and translucent, like the rest of him. “Where am I?” he thought.
“You are special.” said a voice. It flowed through his mind like music, sweet and light. “You care deeply for your friends and even for those who are not. Your heart is pure and of light.”
“What do you mean?” Wolfen asked the space. A bright light grew in front of him.
“You are special. You have a boundless love and compassion for others. This is a power like no other. It is in that way you are special.” The voice was emitting from the light. A small yellow orb separated from the glow and entered Wolfen’s body. “You have received a great power from us, a power that only you can awaken. Use it to defeat the darkness around you, for you are the special one.” said the voice. The light suddenly flared brightly, flooding his field of vision.
“Wait! Wait!” Wolfen called out, but to no avail.
“Go on and complete your quest, for it is the will of the Gods.”
“NO!” Wolfen opened his eyes, a plume of white energy pulsed from the ground around him. Another shockwave emitted from him and threw the approaching Rex across the way. “NO!” He stood, still clamping his head with his bloody hands. “NO!” He doubled over again as two long, bright, slits of light appeared on his damaged back. “NO!” Wolfen bellowed to the sky in all his anguish and rage. “ERSTRAAAAAAA!!!!!”
Suddenly the openings of light on his back flared brightly. From the slits unfolded two great, white wings, but these were no dragon wings. They were giant angel’s wings, greater than any wings Greed, Serin or Furore had ever seen. The feathers looked like they were made from the light itself as they extended from Wolfen’s back. Even his elongated horns looked like they were made of the same light as they stood out from his head. Wolfen’s convulsions suddenly stopped as he stood straight up, his eyes closed. Any and all wounds he had just evaporated off his skin like it was never there, as did the blood. He looked up at Rex and opened his eyes, all three of them. In the middle of his forehead now sat another eye, and exact copy of his other blue eyes, except it was a deeper blue and seemed the most insightful of his eyes. He looked back at Erstra, still dying at his feet. He bent down and placed a hand over his heart and head. For a moment it seemed as his wings and horns lost some of their light as he closed Erstra’s cut and replenished his life, all without a spell.
“I told you not to touch them.” Wolfen said, any rage he had gone from his voice. He spoke calmly as if nothing had happened. “I told you that if you hurt them you would suffer greatly.” Wolfen stood up fully now, his giant wings folded behind his back a. “And now, you will pay, for I have obtained omniscience.”
“What?!” Rex yelled, confused and angry.
“My elongated horns represent my body’s power increase, my third eye represents my empowered state of mind and my wings represent the goodness of my soul. The triad between my body, mind and soul has taken this form for I am no longer just Wolfen, but Wolfen, the god of Protection!”
“Impossible.” Greed mumbled astounded.
“What happened to Wolfen?” asked Serin. Furore asked as similar question.
“… I don’t know...” Greed answered dumbfounded. “He’s so powerful…”
“Wha… what’s going to happen now?” Furore asked getting scared.
“… I don’t know…” Greed trailed off. They turned their attention back at Wolfen, the yellow dragon bent to pick up Erstra. Slowly his body lifted off the ground and hovered over to where the group sat and laid the bloated dragon beside them. “Wolfen, is that you?” Greed asked. Wolfen smiled, a warm feeling blossomed in Greed.
“Yes Greed, it is still me.” he answered warmly. “Do me a favor.”
“Yes?” Wolfen turned around to face Rex again.
“Watch Erstra for me.” With that he floated to where Rex lay on the ground. He was halfway between them before he stopped, by that time Rex had gotten up.
“Wow! You had a costume change!” he mocked.
“Give up now, I don’t want to have to make you suffer anymore.” Wolfen warned.
“Didn’t you already give this speech?” Rex asked. Wolfen shook his head in annoyance.
“I guess I have no choice.” Wolfen folded his wings even further behind his back and crossed his arms just below his head. “Welcome. Super Dragon’s art: Wolfen World!” Both his arms and wings branched out towards the sky, a white haze rose from behind him, enveloping them all in a bubble of light. The light swirled and rippled before it vaporized. Everyone looked around, for they were not on earth anymore.
All around them were deep blue skies, the greenest of trees, colorful fields of flowers and the most peaceful landscape any of them had ever scene. Nearby birds chirped as a steady wind blew across the plain they occupied.
“What is this?” Rex demanded.
“This is Wolfen World!” Wolfen said as he rose off the ground, not even moving his wings, and hovered in the midair above the tree line. Again his staff flared into existence in his right hand as he said “This is the land of goodwill and beauty. This is the realm of my imagination. This is my domain. Here anything can happen at any given moment.”
Suddenly from the horizon rose a growing cloud of dust. At its head was a crowd of dragon’s that all looked like Wolfen in his normal state. They all ran in synchronized steps as they surrounded Rex in a complete circle. They announced their presence and put their palms out to face Rex.
“Ha! You’re kidding right? Just more weaklings for me to take from!” Rex barked.
“I am giving you one more chance. Give up now!” Wolfen threatened, folding his arms. Rex only scoffed. “Fine, but now you will feel my wrath. This is what happens when you hurt my friends!” All the Wolfen troops’ eyes began to glow. Wolfen raised his right hand, as did his multiples. “Dragon’s art: Judgment Level One!” From all their upraised hands shot a single red orb that catapulted into the sky to conjoin with the others. They grew together, each one adding to the bigger whole. Soon they had all joined into one red sphere. It rippled before it stretched and formed into a red pyramid. They all pointed at Rex still in the center of the ring of Wolfens as the pyramid dived from the air towards him. Rex jumped out of the way before the figure hit and avoided the attack, but they saw that and changed their point to aim at his new location. The shape obeyed, rising from the ground before it made a second attempt. It rushed him, but Rex countered by punching it with his fist enveloped in flames and it shattered like glass.
“Judgment Level Two!” the Wolfens called out. The shattered pieces formed together again to remake the lost pyramid. The shape was now a sunset orange as it again started to ripple before growing twice its size. Even at its new mass it still cut through the air as it again hurtled at its enemy. Rex punched it again; it did not shatter this time though. He was forced into the trees as the shape plowed into him.
“Judgment Level Three!” the Wolfens announced. The pyramid again doubled in size, now glowing golden yellow. Here it started to rotate before it drilled through the canopy towards Rex. It tore up the trees and ground as it chased after Rex who was trying to get some distance. He summoned his dark orb to counter against Wolfen’s spell. They made contact and the yellow prism shattered it at a moment’s notice and continued on at him. Rex instead launched himself into the air, barely avoiding the revolving spell. From there, he dove straight for Wolfen who still floated above the plain where his friends sat. He smirked and punched at him once he was in range. Wolfen however dodged slyly to the side, letting Rex to crash into the ground.
“Judgment Level Four!” The Wolfens still in the field vocalized. The prism stopped rotation and again grew before turning a deep emerald green and split into two separate wholes, still retaining their massive size and shape. They rose into the air and aimed their tips at Rex. Instantly the two shapes stretched, their sharp points reaching for Rex. He immediately jumped out of the way of one only to be hit by the other. It pushed him back, his body forced through several tree trunks as he flew backwards with the point still on his chest. The point forced him into a small outcrop of rock before they retreated back to their original form. The shapes grew closer before they rapidly started jabbing his body, stretching, stabbing, retreating and stretching again as they continued to attack him. They stopped as Wolfen hovered over the treetops to where he now sat, the trees seeming to bend towards him as he passed.
“You have lost. Give up and I will spare you further pain.” he said landing on a nearby tree branch.
“You spare me? Ha! You’re still weak, and I’ll show you why!” Rex, ignoring his hurt, lunged from the rock face and over the trees, emerging again above the circle of Wolfens that now surrounded Erstra, Greed, Serin and Furore. “Since you will not obey me, your friends will pay the price!” Rex flew farther into the air and held up both of his hands. A dark orb, like the ones before, grew from his palms. But this one did not stop at its usual size; it continued to grow before it seemingly covered the sky itself. Wolfen had already moved into a position far in front of Rex. “So you choose to die instead? Fine! See if you can handle this!” With a deafening bellow, he cast the dark globe at him. It moved slowly towards Wolfen, its sheer size giving off the illusion of having no speed. But Wolfen was not fooled. He set both his hands out as if to catch it.
“Reoir Ma Seshield!” This was one of Wolfen’s favorite spells. He had first seen it when Tia, from his favorite show Zatch Bell, used it. Her shield was a large pink disk with a wing like symbol in the middle. Wolfen’s however was much different. A flare of light erupted in front of the space between Wolfen and the black orb. From the light came a large blue, white rimmed, disk, but not nearly the size of the sphere that moved towards him. In the center of the disk showed a shield emblem, colored with four different colors all with different meanings. There was red, showing his anger, yellow for his love on, blue for his sadness and green for his happiness. These four colors glowed vibrantly as another figure surrounded the shield. From the remaining flare of light emerged four dragons with their eyes closed. The dragons were nothing more than their heads and arms at they linked their hands. Greed took a closer look at the great shield and gasped. The four dragons were indeed Erstra, Greed, Serin and Furore. The orb made contact, waves of darkness being thrown from the collision point. Wolfen, neither confident nor doubtful, held his position as if only the air was blowing against him. “Now!” The yellow dragon called. The four dragons around the shield opened their eyes and the black sphere was turned a deep blue. With another shout Wolfen’s shield rebounded the spell, the blue ball now hurtling back at its creator. Rex saw this also and tried to dodge to the side. He would have avoided it if the Wolfens didn’t shout “Judgment Level Five!” Seemingly from nowhere, a large blue cube blocked his path and pushed him back in the line of fire. “Judgment Level Six!” they continued. This time a large purple sphere and pyramid came to join the now purple cube and surrounded him, circling around him to make sure he did not escape his own spell. Rex thrust out his hands, just in time to catch the enormous blue ball, but that was what Wolfen expected. The Wolfens called out “Judgment Level Seven!” The shapes that circled around him turned an earthen brown and collided into Rex’s backside. He lost his grip and the spell imploded in a discharge of light as it struck him. The smoke cleared, Rex now bore a large bleeding cut on his chest.
“Judgment Level Eight!” The three brown turned into the four silver as a large diamond shape separated from the figures to join them. They all hurtled at Rex, one by one taking a shot at him. Rex was able to dodge or fight off the first few rounds, but their tactics grew advanced, now attacking two, three or all at once. At the final strike, they all tackled his front and sent him into the ground far below. Rex looked up from his crater, more enraged than ever.
He was about to curse at Wolfen when the Wolfen troops called out “Judgment Level Nine!” High above the four shapes conjoined into one single black sphere, similar to Rex’s spell. The ball rose far into the sky, ascending until it blocked out the red sun that observed Wolfen World. All the Wolfens called out, their bellows like train horns. The orb came down, rapidly increasing in speed. It caught fire as it approached the ground and seemed to scream at Rex. The Wolfen troops suddenly moved into a yellow wall in front of his friends and called out “A thousand shields as one! Ran Mecair Seoshi!” A clear dome surrounded the party before it started rotating, lines of multicolored energy crisscrossing every part of the shield. That was when the dark orb finally touched down, and detonated. A blast of pure white light erupted from the explosion, expanding outwards over the land. The Wolfens yelled out at the energy surge being thrust upon their wall, straining to keep it in place.
For a moment, everything went white.
The light faded. The dark orb now hovered ominously above. Rex now lay in the center of a crater that made his previous one look like an ant compared to a full grown tree. His entire body was charred as he struggled to get up.
“Is that the best you’ve got?” he snarled. Wolfen now floated in the air above him. The other Wolfens had all gone and surrounded the crater as a yellow and tan fence.
The Wolfens surrounding him called out “Surrender now Rex!”
“Or face the final judgment.” finished Wolfen.
“Ha! Why should I be scared about you? You even said you can’t kill anyone! Whatever you do will only lead to your failure you bi…” Rex didn’t finish his curse, for Wolfen had soared in suddenly and clamped his mouth shut. He hovered there in front of Rex for an impossible time; all three of his eyes bore into him, never losing their fierce gaze. His white wings stood motionless on his back. Rex’s tail snapped at Wolfen. He swatted it away with his hand as if it were nothing and then floated away to the edge of the crater and high up into the air.
“Now. The final Judgment.” Wolfen stated.
“Judgment Level Ten!” the Wolfens below called out. The black orb hummed with energy before it turned a heavenly white. Slowly it hovered over to where Wolfen floated, condensing as it went. Wolfen held out his hand and caught the white ball that was no bigger than a pebble, and ate it. His body was filled with a great energy as a single white pillar rose from the ground below him.
“What is this?” Rex demanded, about to attack.
“I am your final judgment. Ready yourself, for you are about to experience my full wrath.” Wolfen said, landing majestically on the very tip of the pillar. “My body in V formation.” With that, he positioned himself so that his wings pointed to the sky, his arms up at the same angle, and his feet together. This stance gave him the look of a V. Wolfen closed his eyes and reopened them to reveal that they had turned completely white. The many Wolfens now surrounded the column at its base.
“The amazing force of my happiness and joy to my right wing.”
“Chagur!” replied the Wolfens below. A green orb materialized at the tip of his right wing.
“The great seas of my sorrow and grief to my right hand.”
“Chagur!” they called again. A blue orb appeared over his right palm.
“The boundary defying power of my love and care to my left wing.”
“Chagur!” A golden yellow orb formed at the tip of his left wing.
“The center of my hatred and rage to my left hand.”
“Chagur!” A swirling red orb appeared grew over his left palm.
“And now, the omnipotence of my heart and soul, to the apex!”
“Chagur!” they announced a final time. A solid crystal clear orb formed in the space between his wings, lower than the upper two orbs.
“You will never win!” growled Rex. He doubled over before his body became cloaked in an evil black flame. He roared at the sky as power flowed from his limbs.
“I already have.” From the orbs sprouted a clear line which linked each of them to another, making it look like a shape. The orbs all turned white before the letter was surrounded by a multicolored frame that, showing that it was a giant W. “Level Ten, Final Judgment. The Ultimate Dragon’s art: Chagur Imisdon!” The connected orbs loosed a great beam, an enormous concentration of power. It shot from Wolfen’s orbs as it grew in size and propelled towards Rex. Rex roared at the sky again and conjured a giant black sword, which he used to counter Wolfen’s spell as they collided. Energy waves like no other were thrown from the impact. It cut through the ground and leveled the trees around them. The forces of good and evil continued to push each other back.
Erstra
Wolfen’s spell suddenly grew in size and exponentially increased in its power. The power cast from the assault raised a powerful deluge of power, tearing the remaining stumps from the ground, and the ground along with it, from its sheer intensity. Rex strained at the sudden influx, but to no avail. His sword broke. At that moment he knew he had lost. The spell continued its path and struck him, covering him in a polychromatic blaze of brilliance that continuously poured from Wolfen.
“See? This is the power of goodness! This is the power of my heart! This is the power of my friendship!” Wolfen shouted. The spell again multiplied in size and power as it continued to bore down on Rex. There was a blink of light before the entire area was enclosed in a great dome of light, so bright that everyone, even the Wolfens below the pillar, had to cover their eyes, except for Wolfen himself. Silence pervaded the whiteout as the last of Wolfen’s spell ended.
Greed looked up. They were back on the beach. Serin and Furore wore a similar expression. They looked down at Erstra sill lying beside them. He also had a question in his eyes. He stood up, as did the others, and looked over at Wolfen, his magnificent wings still sat on his back. Rex lay in front of him, face down in the sand.
“Boss!” The blue and red dragons came running up to Rex and stopped cold when they saw Wolfen. He looked at them both and beckoned with his finger.
“Come here.” he commanded in a calm voice. Not sure what to do, they approached him slowly. When they were at arm’s length he spoke again. “Close your eyes.” They did so.
The three muscled dragons were lifted into the air, just above Wolfen. He looked up, his horns grating against the fine sand, and opened his mouth. What happened next astonished them to no end, especially Greed, for it was so unexpected. One by one, Wolfen forced each dragon in his mouth and down his throat. As each one landed in his belly, they tried to flail around inside of him but only succeeded in squirming some. He finished his meal with Rex, the red dragon making a fine desert as his round gut grew close to the ground. Suddenly Wolfen moved his palms to face in front of him.
“Reincarnation.” he whispered. Three cylinders of light appeared in front of him. One by one the pillars vaporized, leaving Mario, Kasey, and Rex standing before him. Each of them now looked like skin and bones, completely stripped of their muscles. They looked at themselves.
“What have you done to us fatty?!” Rex bawled.
“You are right when you say that I cannot kill anyone. It is for that reason I ate you and then remade you in this image. They will serve as your new bodies until you fully realize your mistakes and come away from the side of darkness. Until then your bodies will stay as is, no matter what you do.” Rex, angered, punched Wolfen in the face. His fist made contact, but Wolfen didn’t feel anything. Rex fell back in pain, gripping his broken wrist.
“You’ll regret this fatty! You and your fat friends too!” With that Rex flexed his wings and took to the sky, only to fall down moments later, exhausted. Erstra laughed as the gang watched them scramble away. They walked toward Wolfen, their bodies jiggling with every step.
“Nice one Wolfen!” commented Furore.
“Yeah, way cool!” added Serin. Wolfen heard their complements, but did not respond. Instead he walked over to the sea’s edge, jostling his filled belly with each step, and faced the setting sun. There he stopped and pressed his hands together in front of him.
“You must always remember…” he started.
And with his angelic voice, he started to sing.
“Life can be a challenge. Life can seem impossible”
“It’s never easy, when so much is on the line”
“But you can make a difference. With courage you can set thing right”
“The gift to dream and make dream real is yours and mine”
“The power of one, begins with believing”
“It starts in the heart then flows through the soul and changes the world”
“Imagine how life will be, when we stand in unity”
“Each of us holds the key, to the power of one”
“Each of us is chosen. There’s a mission just for you”
“Just look inside you’ll be surprised what you can do”
“The power of one, begins with believing”
“It starts in the heart then flows through the soul and changes the world”
“Imagine how life will be, when we stand in unity”
“Each of us holds the key to the power of one”
“And one by one”
“We can make a world a much better place”
“The power of… One!” Wolfen branched his wondrous wings out towards the sky.
“Begins with believing!”
“It starts in the heart then flows through the soul and changes the world!”
“Imagine how life will be, when we stand in unity!”
“Each of us holds the key!”
“It’s inside of you and me!”
“Each of us holds the key, to the power of one!” He slowly brought his hands to his heart and folded his wings as he sang out the last word and closed his eyes.
“The power, of one…”
With the end of his song his white wings vaporized and disappeared off his back. His third eyes had vanished from view. His horns shrunk back to their normal state. Wolfen was back to normal. His friends cheered and rushed up to him with congratulations and such. Wolfen however did not hear them this time. He collapsed right there in front of them, his belly spreading over the sand where he lay.
“Mmm… Eh, Ers… Erstra, come back…” Wolfen mumbled.
“Wolfen?” called a voice.
“Come back Erstra… don’t, don’t go away…”
“Wolfen, wake up.”
“Erstra no, come back…”
“Wolfen!!”
“Ah!” Wolfen woke with a start and sat up, accidentally bumping heads with Greed. They both groaned as hurt spread through their foreheads. Wolfen looked around. He was lying in his bed, the morning light streaming into his room. Serin and Furore stood left of him while Erstra and Greed stood opposite.
“You ok Wolfen?” Furore asked.
“Yeah, you gave us as scare when you fell out like that.” Serin added.
“Uh, yeah, I’m ok.” Wolfen said rubbing his head. “Wh, what happened?” he asked.
“Well you went and got mad when that guy nearly killed Erstra, then your horns grew out and you grew these really big wings and you grew another eye, then you announced that you were the god of protection or something, brought us to another world and beat him to a pulp to put it short.” Greed summarized.
“Really?” Wolfen asked. “Oh!” he put a hand to his head as the memories of what had transpired rotated though his mind’s eye. He looked at Erstra with a worried expression.
“Don’t worry, I’m ok now. You saved me remember?” he said with a smile. Wolfen smiled back.
“I gotta say that was pretty cool what you did kid.” Greed continued.
“Yeah, how’d you grow those wings?” Serin asked.
“And where did they go?” added Furore.
“I… I don’t know. When I saw Erstra on the ground I had closed my eyes. Then I found myself in, like, space or something, where some light spoke to me and…” He suddenly remembered. “They gave me that power…”
“Who?” Erstra asked intrigued.
“I don’t know. The last thing it said was ‘Go on and complete your quest, for it is the will of the Gods’.”
“Greed?” asked Erstra.
“What?”
“Do you know anything about this?”
“Nope, I was born a deity. I’ve never heard of this before.” Greed looked back at Wolfen. “Don’t think this changes anything between us tubby.” He smirked and patted his fattened belly sticking up in the air. Wolfen then remembered that he ate Rex and his friends as he felt the plushness of his gut.
“So… does that mean you’re a god too Wolfen?” asked Serin inquisitively. They all leaned in, waiting for an answer.
“Uh, I don’t know.” They all seemed dissatisfied with his answer. “Maybe it’s just a dormant power, like when I turn red or blue.” Then he realized. “Of course!”
“What? What is it?” begged Furore.
“My omniscient form can only be achieved in the case of extreme danger or emotion!” he concluded.
“Well that’s a bore.” went Greed. “Wait, what about that song you sang before you turned back?”
“The Power of One?”
“Uh, sure.”
“Well, first of all it’s my favorite song. It’s just so inspirational to me.”
“It did sound like a pretty song when you were singing it.” interjected Serin.
“Well,” Greed cut back in, “what if you’re supposed to use that to turn back and forth?”
“Hmm…” Wolfen thought. His contemplating was cut short when his belly let loosed a loud grumble. He smiled as he said “I guess I’ll have to figure that out later then huh?” They all chuckled as Wolfen maneuvered from his bed. He still felt fragile, but he was able to stand.
The gang wobbled downstairs where Greed suggested they go out to eat. They agreed without complications. They moved outside whereupon Greed told everyone to stop. He smirked and threw out his hands. The ground in front of them opened up into a seemingly bottomless chasm. Everyone gathered around to see what was in it, Wolfen especially. Taking the opportunity, Greed strode around to him and pushed him in.
“Greed!” Wolfen called as he fell.
“Greed?! What was that for?” the others shouted in unison.
“Just wait.” he said slyly. They heard an ‘omph’ like Wolfen had hit something.
“Wolfen! You ok?” Erstra called.
“Yeah, I just landed in… what is this?” Suddenly Serin and Furore had a thought.
“Don’t tell me it’s that gel stuff that you made us fall into before!” Serin complained.
“Don’t tell us you’re going to eat him too!”
“I said wait!” Greed reinstated. The sound of chomping and swallows could be heard from the hole.
“Hey! This pit is filled with hot dogs!” The guys above all looked at Greed, confused.
“It’s his favorite food, he deserves it.”
“Ohhhh, getting all sentimental on him are ya?” joked Erstra. Greed was quick to object.
“No. Not at all, he’s still the new guy here after all. It’s taken me forever to get used to you three.” He snapped his fingers and a light came on in the hole, allowing them to watch Wolfen’s gorging.
The yellow dragon below was in heaven. Hot dogs of all sizes dominated the area as far as he could see. He laughed as he jumped in, mouth open, and swam among the sea of food. He chomped every chance he got, swallowing the delectable food and moving on to do the rest. He had already started to fatten out more, his butt showing more than anything.
“Wow, he really loves hot dogs.” concluded Erstra.
“Shhh!” hushed Greed.
Wolfen continued his eating and growing. He stuffed his face with as many as three or four dogs at once before swallowing them. His body continued to grow as well. His belly was already hanging past his feet as it sat on the sea of food, his chest sagging over the sides of his belly. His arms and legs had also inflated and looked like they weren’t going to stop anytime soon. The amounts Wolfen ate at once grew with each mouthful, soon turning into him drinking the food straight from the source. He continued on a faithful cycle. He’d eat, swallow, grow, eat, swallow, grow, eat, swallow, grow, burp loudly and then do it all over again in greater amounts. The dragons above all watched Wolfen’s progress, the growing tub of lard devouring the sea of food below. Greed was the one most impressed, drooling at the sight of his growing, yellow behind. Wolfen continued to eat until he was full, then he ate more until he was completely overstuffed, then he ate even more. His body responded by growing ever fatter, his belly and rear now covered half the valley of his favorite nosh. Soon it came to a point where his body was too fat and he could hardly move. Still he continued to make due, using his power to lift clumps of food from wherever it lay and stuff himself more.
He finally finished the endless amount by sunset. Erstra, Serin and Furore had been lying back in the sand, letting the sun warm their large bellies while Greed continued to watch Wolfen with growing zest. Wolfen announced his finishing with a loud burp, loud enough to scare the hundreds of seagulls that occupied the beach several miles away. The others made their way over to the hole to spy upon the overbese glutton. The first thing that stuck out at them was his mountainous rear. The two yellow orbs that served as his butt extended far and wide behind him and hid his tail from view. The next thing they found, moreover the only other thing they saw, was his colossal gut. His belly was even bigger than even Greed had expected, stretching endlessly into the void he was stuck in, a large pair of rolling globs of fat serving as his new chest now sagged halfway across his belly. Erstra looked at Greed, as did the others and they could tell that he was about to lose it.
“Hey!” Wolfen called up from the void he now occupied. “Got anymore? Burrrp!” With that final push, Greed leapt into the hole and landed softly on Wolfen. He laughed as he traversed the soft landscape to Wolfen’s head.
“You’ve done good kid. You’ve done good.” That was when the rest of them decided to jump in too. They played around on his belly a bit before coming to join him.
“Hey nice job Wolfen!” complimented Erstra.
“Yeah I can’t even remember ever getting to this size!” added Serin.
“Then you must have the worst memory of us all.” joked Furore. They all had a good laugh about it, especially Wolfen whose laughs made him jiggle waves of fat. Erstra got tripped up on the waves and fell back, his head near Wolfen’s.
“Erstra?” Wolfen asked.
“Hmmm?”
“Thanks.”
“For what?”
“For being my friend.” They both smiled.
“Awww, I’d hug you but I’m afraid that’s a little too much to get at once.” He chuckled. Wolfen grinned back, blushing slightly. “And I have to thank you too.”
“For what?”
“For saving me of course!”
“Well you saved me, I saved you, were even!” Wolfen replied with a smile.
“Not really…” Erstra said gripping some of Wolfen’s flab. Again he laughed, shaking the dragons that resided on him.
“Well, there’s only one thing to do now.” Greed declared.
“Which is?” Wolfen asked.
“Go to sleep of course. Gotta digest all that before we go anywhere else.” With that Greed laid on one of Wolfen’s moobs and fell asleep on impact. Serin and Furore immediately followed his example, falling asleep quickly after sinking into the fat of his chest. Erstra decided to lie next to Wolfen’s head.
“Goodnight Erstra, oh Dread.” Wolfen said yawning.
“Goodnight Wolfen.” he replied with a similar gesture.
With that the overweight dragons all drifted into their dreams of food and gluttony as they all slept on the goliath yellow blob they call their friend Wolfen.
A last voice flowed through Wolfen’s mind before he fell asleep.

You have done well special one. Your power is now permanently yours to keep as long as you continue to light the darkness around you.
Farewell, Wolfen.

I must admit that you have outdone yourself. The incredible detail of all of the chapter's events, as well as drawing your powers from your memories makes for quite a good read.
The one question I have would be about that being in your head. I wonder who it is... Perhaps you are the reincarnation of Bahamut, the first living dragon, who once carried the world upon his shoulders, and your spirit is bringing back the strength of the TRUE god to your body. (went a bit off the deep end in dragon lore there)
Personally, I would have named "the power of goodness" "the power of light"
I shall have to enter you into the manuscript of the gods when I have the chance.
Hope to see more flash and stories from such an excellent artist, in the future.
