I always figured they where there to have beginner/intermediate users learn how to edit some existing brushes (ie. change scattering, effects, etc). In my time I've actually seen a small handful of people modify the grass brush to get some quick, dirty, concept-art-style brushes for fur textures, which didn't end up looking too bad. Not a method I'd personally use though...

Yesss, it's really relaxing to do these... huge pieces can get frustrating (as you know, haha!), but these are usually short enough that they can be done in a day. :D So even if I didn't like doing something... it's over! Hurray.
