It's been a long time since I uploaded anything, especially music related. I was on a bit of a creative hiatus pretty much since I broke up with my ex back in 2013. I wanted to make stuff but it was like my creativity was so unfocused it might as well have been blocked. Just over a year ago however, I started seeing a therapist who had been instrumental in bringing me back to my creative self and encouraged me to try using game development as a form of creative journaling or diary keeping. With that encouragement I made my first game in Unreal Engine last year and entered it into a game jam. Took first place out of 500 competing entries too which was a really awesome feeling.
The game I made was a psychological horror game about my personal struggles with depression, PTSD, and suicidal ideation. It was called Diary of Broken Dreams. This song, False Truth, is the theme song I made for the game's trailer which is watchable over on youtube with this link if you're interested:

The main inspiration for this song came both from Akira Yamaoka and his song 'True' that he made for Silent Hill 2 as well as my memories of all the times I would sit on a creaky swing set all alone in either the pouring rain or dark of night and just listen to music while I disassociated from my life. The repetitive sound of a swing or metal gate going back and forth with the beat is symbolic of that to me. It made the mix more personal than just simply trying to copy an artist I look up to and let me pour myself into the piece more emotionally. I remember sitting in those swings for hours upon hours, they were my therapy.
I've since started 2 additional game projects by the way, both of which are in very early development. One of them is actually going to end up as part of a collection of which I still can't reveal too much. I will say that said collection will be available on Steam after April sometime though. In this project I'm working on all of the game's art and level design. I kind of wish I was in control of everything but this is my first group project of this nature and concessions need to be made in order to make the most of such a learning experience. I can't wait to share more about it with the world though!
Anyway, this description turned into a bit of a journal but oh well. I hope you like this song, I've been very proud of it since the time I finalized the mix. :D
