School project I finished last night. For my children's book illustration class, I had to illustrate my own spin on an Aesop fable, so naturally, I gravitated towards one with wolves in it. For my retelling though, instead of making the wolf the villain of the story, I instead made the wolf just want to fit in and make friends, but the sheep and the sheepdog refuse to accept them because they're a wolf and "wolves are bad guys". Plus, to really hone in on the fact that the wolf is friendly, I gave them a sheep hat and a wool sweater instead of putting them in a pelt.
I suppose my reason behind this specific retelling lies in personal experience. Being neurodivergent, I tried fitting in with the "flock" through "putting on sheep's clothing" by masking, but no matter how hard I tried to just be a sheep, I wound up getting cast out of the herd anyway. Thankfully though, as an adult I no longer need the "sheep's clothing"; I found it much better to hang around those who accept me for being "a wolf". This little one will figure that out one day too ;)

At first glance I didn't identified a sheepdog, mostly because of the shapes of its muzzle and its hears, without the context I thought it was a bear. Also it would have been cool if there were lots of sheeps (maybe circling the wolf but staying distant as they are so scared?) to emphasize the fact that the wolf is rejected/ostracized (by everyone), to give more impact to your picture ;) just suggesting..
Keep up the good work, you seem to draw a lot and improve each time!

Thank you so much. I agree that the collie's muzzle is a little thick.
In addition, I love the idea of adding more sheep. Unfortunately, I suppose with the sheer size of the foreground characters, and the document size constraints of the assignment, I couldn't add more in, however, I agree that had I done that, the piece would have been even more effective.
Once again, thank you for your critique; I'll definitely keep these things in mind of my future work ^W^

You're welcome! I really enjoy your work by the way! My husband works as a graphic designer for Universal/Illumination ("Despicable Me" "Sing" "The Grinch" etc...) please feel welcome to ask for some advices or retakes for your school work ;) (I do need his objective POV when I draw, I call him my "Third eye" ^^')
