Over 200 years ago, he was sealed to a forest shrine as a protection against evil. Unfortunately the mediums didn't realize they were capturing an evil spirit. But their magic was very effective, and he obediently serves anyone who has practiced the right charms.
Today the surrounding land has been urbanized, and the shrine is an ordinary place to worship and make offerings. He is usually tasked with soliciting donations, cleaning, and chasing away minor spirits. But when he gets the chance to roam free without supervision, he's nothing but trouble!
