"The Humble Squire, the first steppingstone on thy journey. Jack of all trades and master of none, they can equip any gear, and cut their path the way they choose. Let it be blade, firearms, or magic. Once the path is chosen, there is no turning back as you will mold thy self into a powerful warrior. Take thy sigil of the Tiamat, climb the tree of life, and go fourth ever so bravely as you take the field." ~Thomza Materia
Hee-Ho, hello everyone you voted on the poll and it looks like units, factions and leaders have won it out! So next week? It's all going to be mostly focusing on such a topic... However, don't get too discouraged, there will still always be the other artwork thrown in there, such as the casual artwork that was also voted for and important illustrations of the setting, anwyays-- This one is going to be a pretty big one! Unlike Captain PiK's units who are all simplified, trained from the start, Thomza's units are... Different. That and I realized the misspelling. Climbing the "Tree of Life" which has various jobs, classes and other little things that their soldiers will obtain. To "Level Up" and gain new skills they must show their devotion to their god. Since Thomza and Tia come from a JRPG setting it is only natural their army would have video game like mechanics and class trees.
The Humble Squire is basically the starting job. They're able to do anything and everything but are generally weak as a result until they properly trained with their chosen weapons and skills of choice. The class tree will be reveled in full, but it quite literally is, a class tree. However, I will give off an example of how this works. If a soldier continues to train in heavy armor and use swords, they will become a Knight. If a soldier uses spears and trains in medium gear, they will become a Billman. If they train in various branches of magic? They will become an adept and work from there as the class tree expands out its branches. It is also not uncommon to see many high-end Scalebolds start to multi-class. Every Scalebold is given their own unique head of Tia as it will be their prayer stone and what they use to cast magic with or their skills with. These heads are destroyed if the Scalebold falls in combat and their soul is taken by the gods to be revived at one of their temples. However, a penalty of course is held by losing devotion and if they lose too much, they might as well be considered a sacrifice for their Dragon Gods.
Now that's pretty much all there is to say about the squire except for some small fun facts, have a good day everyone!
Fun Fact 1: The Humble Squire has a descending branching path of the mute god if they stick with it and do not evolve or change jobs. These are known as "Root" classes instead of branches.
Fun Fact 2: The pose the character is doing is based off the Crusader from Darkest Dungeon
Fun Fact 3: The original name for the Humble Squire was "Freelancer" and "Knight in Training", but this was changed
Fun Fact 4: The background is reused from The Pillars Shall Love and Protect [Mythology] for it is one of their churches and places of worship
Disclaimer and Copyright: These characters involved, and the artwork belongs to me, TwistedHensley. The Skin to Scales universe also belongs to me there, TwistedHensley... You get the drill. I want to point out that this is an Epic Dark Fantasy setting with a lot of mythological and religious tones and that there is no real-life connection to any of these events, religions, characters and it is fully, grounded, in fantasy. This is the same setting where faith is a massive part of the magic system. There are also many satirical tones as well...
