>>Trapped within a tomb, Thomza awakens from his slumber as a Toonbold in Cycle 9. The hero of Tiamat and the defender of the tomb of immortals. Or that's the backstory he was given by Tia to tell others when asked. The race for immortality is on and he is one of the keys to obtain godhood. Proto being the first to find him and putting him into his crew. However, Thomza refuses to talk to "The Tall Ones" and acts like an animal to thwart Proto's attempt at immortality. He is humble, thoughtful and as well as bold. The only beings he seemingly speaks with are mandrakes...
Just in case people couldn't read up on it or something got messed up with the resolution-- Hee-Ho- Howdy everyone! Yeah, this might be a bit different from how I usually draw Kobolds... However, yes, this is another species of Kobold that are unique to Cycle 9. If you might've noticed, I'm going to be full on pushing for a full Cycle 9 rework, and the quest for immortality spearheaded by Proto. These "reference sheets" if you've noticed are small, bite sized, and the reasoning for that? Is that Cycle 10 is gigantic, complex, dark, while I want Cycle 9, the universe that came before it in the far past, to be of a much different tone. The tone being that of small cartoons but can still be pretty edgy. It is the setting where I can write and just... Take a break where the stakes aren't 24/7 that the universe is going to be destroyed at any moment. It's meant to be much more of a slap-stick comedy with very whacky characters and not so serious plots.
It is having a vibe that's very different from the main timeline of the current setting. I also wanted to take a different design philosophy entirely. The idea of "Keep it Simple", "Do not overdesign characters, make them all very toon-like and friendly", "Make them expressive as possible, the anatomy doesn't need to look all that right, make them fun.", "Make it easy to draw for comics and other animations"-- As even from a face value that the "Toonbold" looks much different from the Scalebolds or Fruit Kobolds I usually draw based off their extremely short anatomy alone. So instead of dark fantasy? We're going with a bubbly cartoon! Also do not worry, this doesn't mean I'm dropping Cycle 10 content as well as all that other stuff, no- This is just a fun little project that still connects to the main setting!
This is actually the 6TH WHOLE CONCEPT of the character! The first few was just too overdetailed, and the others had big boots that went up to his massive legs, some just... really didn't work out, and he also went through a few color redesigns too! I wanted to keep him at only a few colors and continue to ensure his simplicity.
Anyways, I hope you all are excited as I am for the redesign of Cycle 9... Even if there wasn't much to begin with on it, but still! It'll be now in full work! Have a good day everyone!
Disclaimer and Copyright: These characters involved, and the artwork belongs to me, TwistedHensley. The Skin to Scales universe also belongs to me there, TwistedHensley... You get the drill. I want to point out that this is an Epic Dark Fantasy setting with a lot of mythological and religious tones and that there is no real-life connection to any of these events, religions, characters and it is fully, grounded, in fantasy. This is the same setting where faith is a massive part of the magic system. This however is stuff of Cycle 9 which is just the deep past of the current setting of skin to scales, it is still bright and colorful, but what I said still applies. This is all grounded in fantasy, as I repeat myself.
