Somewhere off the coast of Redoubt Island, there are waters where ships disappear... and not sunk by sea mines disappear - literally disappear!
A place where a large creature is said to reside, one as old as time itself. Back when the continents were one, and the ocean was stagnant and putrid. Where only the most toxic of poison types could reside, and where the currents of life would only sink you to the bottom...
This creature has been given the name 'Pelagithora, Horror of the Still Ocean' by sailors centuries back. With a touch that eats metal, an appetite that eats metal, a stomach that- well you get the point. Areas of extremely caustic and noxious poisons can be detected far down below past the drop off edge. Sometimes they bubble up and cause good surface-fairing vessels to lose buoyancy, hull mass, and then sink!
From galleons to massive modern Greentree cargo vessels, nothing is safe from the wrathful waters on the aft side of Redoubt Island's turbulent coasts. However it is not of malice this creature attacks, but more so of curiosity and pity...
"Every time we touch, your world dissolves around you. You just love to let the ocean's wrath in while you scream, burn, and succumb to my poison...
Yet you hide here - many of you follow my siren's call. Out of mercy I'll make you disappear. They'll never find you now. So you can rest easy with me"
Curiosity that causes calamity, sadness at the conflicts that happen overhead, and with an ominous reassurance that everything will be alright. Like the barmaid of a ghost pirate saloon giving you a parting drink before you set sail for the spirit world ahead! For an eternity in the stagnant quiet deep - the graveyard of the oceans...

Yeah stuff like "Their poison is strong enough to eat through the hull of a tanker, and they spit it indiscriminately at anything that enters their territory." and "Tales are told of ships that wander into seas where Dragalge live, never to return." are just multiplied in intensity when the Dragalge is much bigger!
