Hah, I always thought it'd be funny if one of his bullies shut him in one. XD "DUHUH, HAY GUYS, I GOTZ ME SOME HORRENDOUS HADDOCK!"
He was pretty clumsy in the movie. In fact, I'd say more so- Book-Hiccup lacked in strength (and in most cases, conviction), but he could swordfight and did on some pretty crazy terrain (piles of treasure, pitching ocean, table of food, the mast of a ship ala Peter Pan, the side of a volcano studded with Exterminator eggs...)
Yeah, no, Toothless from the book? No. Though if Hiccup was the right size, I'm not sure book Toothless would hesitate much. Greedy thing. XD

Well, the artist is an admitted canon-snob.
In whichever book it is Toothless finds the stormblade, Cressida Cowell points out that dragons can in fact store and concentrate oxygen, even operating in the relatively anemic environment of seawater. It was even a plot point. Taken together with the fact that according to , night furies spit wads of acetylene-oxygen fire that burns at 3500 Celsius... I'd venture a guess that night furies have enough lung capacity for two. Especially if one of the two is both smaller and sleeping.
