2023 racing season had started last month, but this time no drive for Ford, an era has ended, now Alfa Romeo steps in with two high powered sedans, an all wheel drive 1990 155 DTM tweaked to 700 HP, and a rear wheel drive 2020 Giulia GTAM tweaked to nearly 655 HP.
long story short Shawn and Ford parted ways after a disagreement with the company's then new and current CEO about what vehicles he should endorsed in a marketing campaign, in other words obviously the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Shawn said no but the CEO insisted, after a nearly heated debate they decided to go their separate ways, by the end of 2018, Shawn's contract with Ford Racing had ended and it was all over.
in 2019, he originally signed on with Audi Sport and things were starting to look like they were going continue on well for him and his team after winning a few races with Audi, but then the Volkswagon Group decided to drop a left field bombshell, they announced they will be pulling all of their divisions out of all gas powered motorsports, no more factory team involvement in any kind motorsport series that runs on gas and instead will be committed to Formula-E as part of their commitment to going green, this decision meant that Shawn and team were deprived of a factory supported drive for the rest of the 2019 season, so they had to race some of Ford's left over hand me down race cars and with what little Ford parts they had left and any parts they didn't have to replace?, they crafted their own from scratch, they struggled on for the rest of 2019, they were looking forward to 2020 being an optimistic season, but then the Covid-19 pandemic happened and nearly all racing seasons for all motorsports was cancelled, the world went into lockdown, most motorsports organizations decided to host their races virtually, while that was fun, Shawn was eager to get to some real racing that doesn't involved "arm chair racing", 2021 proved to be a little better, the Skunk / Polyphony Digital team almost got the world championship but was beaten to it by 3 points losing it to Kyle Fangmeyer of Mercedes Benz, (rumored to be the boyfriend of my other fursona Riana, perhaps a little story about him some other time).
then 2022 would be the year the tide had turned in their favor, driving their 4 year old Ford GT race car, Shawn was able to grab the world title, this successful season would grab the attention Fiat, and in December 2022, they struck a deal with Shawn, he and his team would drive for the manufacturer of his choice, he chose Alfa Romeo and the deal was set for 2023.
and so here we are, and so far, these Alfas have been really good cars, still living up to their heritage
