I would assume that its a push rod. its used to push the empty shells out of the cylinder

It's for manually ejecting the spent shells one at a time. Very outdated tech considering how beefy this thing look, but hey, the client gets what they want.

Being a side shot makes it hard to tell how the push rod actually works on this example.
Though I will say its a beautiful design and I wouldn't mind having a real one

Yeah you are right; side shots are not always optimal. Actually pretty rarely, but I would say good shading usually does the job quite well.
I'm still planning on offering 3D versions of my designs and maybe even have them 3D printed at some point.
