It's true, except I think that there's like a million references from the entire series in the movie; they just show up in very different ways. The difference between this and Eragon is that these people obviously read and cared about all of the books. XD
It really is the same basic plotline- it's just Hiccup "has a way with the beasts" instead of literally speaking to dragons, among other things.

Ahaha! Good eye. Yes, this, and nearly everything else I've posted is digital, with free-use stock backgrounds. I don't actually have access to a scanner, and drawing vore non-privately can get a little risky. XD I actually love charcoal and have some normal stuff I SHOULD scan, but, haven't had the time.
