Alex sank into his cozy mattress as he drifted deeper into sleep, and he nuzzled his face into his plush pillow as he dreamed. Musical notes drifted in and out of his awareness: the lullaby that his favorite childhood Lugia plushie played. The plushie was now a little worn from many years of snuggling, but if anything, its colors and music seemed brighter and clearer than ever. He hugged the plushie close to his face, and in his dream, the plushie became an actual Lugia towering above him, come to life before the amazed eyes of his childhood self. The music drifted around him as he hugged Lugia's soft, plush belly, feeling completely safe and warm nestled into the comfort of the Legendary Pokémon's fur and feathers. He never wanted this dream to end.
Outside of the dream, something strange had begun to happen. Alex grew, and grew, and grew, the bed creaking and groaning underneath him as his own body began to expand into a huge, fluffy form. His hands ballooned in size, each finger spreading out into paddle-like digits while his nails sharpened to pointed claws. Feathers and fur covered him from head to toe, tickling as they covered him in soft hues of blue and white. His Pokéball patterned pajamas stretched around him. Buttons pulled fabric to its limit before popping loose, sent flying across the room. The soft pajamas stretched and stretched, pulled taut, before ripping. The bed frame, already sagging under his increased weight, gave one last groan before collapsing to the floor. A huge tail snaked around him, knocking furniture to and fro, but still he didn't wake. Long blue feathers sprouted from his back, and his sleepy smile stretched into a cute snout with a sleepy tongue blep. Finally the music slowed and tapered off, but the changes remained. Lugia turned over, pulling his now-tiny blanket up to his chin with a cozy grin.
When he finally did wake up, he would be in for quite the surprise.
