A sketch I made awhile back but didn't get around to posting until now. A sketch of Andrea if she was a Sonic character that I made maybe a week after beating Frontiers
Some background on this; I grew up as a diehard Sonic fan. Like as a kid I couldn't get enough of Sonic media. Like I was kind of obsessed with the series as a kid thinking back on it, like I would play or watch anything if it had Sonic in it to some degree.
That said, as I grew older I ultimately fell out of the series as a teenager. Mainly because, at that time, there hadn't been a good Sonic game in awhile. And to make it worse I revisited what was my favorite game was I was little, Sonic Adventure DX, aaaaand realized that it was not nearly as good/bug free as I remembered it as a kid. Granted I still kept up with and played the games as they came out, mainly out of obligation since this series more or less was the core of my childhood since none of the games at the time really grabbed me. Not only were they not exactly fun to play, but I couldn't be invested in the story or characters like I used to.
And then Frontiers came out a few months back. And promptly reminded me why I loved the Sonic series so much growing up. I won't say much else, as this description has gone on long enough I'd say. But I will say that Sonic Frontiers is probably the best Sonic game I've played in a very long time. Like I genuinely do not remember the last time I actually had fun playing a Sonic game, or the last time I had gotten somewhat invested in the story and characters. Nevermind how the boss fights had me feel a level of hype I hadn't felt since I was a kid fighting Dark Gaia late one Saturday night. (My jaw was genuinely on the floor when Undefeatable began to play in the background for the first boss, and I just had this grin on my face the entire time)
Anyway, Frontiers single handedly reignited my love for this series. And as such I wanted to draw something Sonic related. So here we have my character Andrea if she was a Sonic character.

While I never played any of the games, I grew up watching the cartoons as a kid (Adventure, SATAM, Underground and Sonic X). I was too young at the time the first two shows aired to remember almost any of it, so looking at clips now feels like watching it for the first time again. Going back and watching Underground...well I realize as I'm much older just how poorly that show has aged. It's like it took the very essence of 90s cheesiness and bottled it up into a show that didn't even get a proper ending (would have been nice to see a finale where the siblings finally reunite with their mother like in the intro song at least.)
Sonic X was a weird case as the first two seasons were okay, kinda hit-and-miss (I don't watch the entirety of those episodes, just a handful here and there,) but Season 3 was on a whole other level and I immediately fell in love with it and binged the entire season after watching the first episode of it. It felt more like a spin-off series to Sonic X than a third season since it took place almost entirely in space rather than on Earth or Mobius, it introduced new characters like Cosmo and the Metarex empire, and even the "human surrogate" character Chris Thorndyke was given a complete overhaul by having him all grown up and a brilliant scientist rather than a whiny kid (though I will still never understand why the writers thought they needed to have his body revert to his child-self while retaining all the knowledge and skills of an adult...that was weird.)
