Early D. designs for Meatware
For a while D. was going to be an alien rather than a reptilian mutant. His name was Scab, he got the name from Iki/Mutt in this version as well.
Tbh he didn't have much of a personality in the original Meatpunk. I wanted to have a big monster dude protect a small lady. That's as far as i had the premise fleshed out...
Him being a bodyguard of sorts was set from the beginning. I struggled with his design a lot, he always felt too inhuman for the story to work. Probably cause i hadn't given hima a purpoise beyond "protect girl".
The story was also too focused on Mutt/Iki overall, it didn't start coming together till i shifted the focus from Iki to D. He serves as the audience avatar, being flung into a foreign world, trying to make sense of it all.

D actually has more of a Kaiju look in his earlier design, I think. Like he’s more of the “I’m gonna reck shit up” type than the “Good boi that protec girl” one. Then again, subverting expections would be a cool way of going about it.
I still like the design you went with though, which certainly compliments the most innocent naivety D possesses and comedic scenes that follow suit.
