For a little bit now, I've had this wave of nostalgia come into my brain and making me think of all the experiences I used to have and love in the arcades as a kid. Specifically the ones tied around my favorite genre of video games: fighting games. I had this thought of being back in a neon-lit arcade, surrounded by the games I grew up with... and so this piece came to be.
This is basically an ode to my gaming experience in the 90s. Playing Street Fighter 2 with my dad (as he destroyed me in the corner), being entranced by the intricate character art of Street Fighter 3, and getting that rush of excitement and curiosity when I was introduced via MvC2 to a slew of franchises and characters that I'd later love in Capcom games. Thinking back, it's weird to think about how many of these experiences had a domino effect for my interests and art today.
This picture was a ton of fun to work on, though also very involved. I don't think I've used this many references in a single image before. Even the screenshots are recreations of the exact moments that I vividly remember. It felt good to get this out.
I hope you all enjoy this slightly different piece from me :) Feel free to share your own arcade memories below!

I remember when I was a child there was a arcade in a mall of a town that is close to the one where I live. We used to go to a restaurant to eat ribs and grilled meat and the arcade was next to it, I loved getting lost in it and seeing other people play those games (I hardly could because I hardly had money to play). The restaurant still exists but the arcade is now a place for sport bets.
Heh, yeah, my old memories of arcades are much the same, at least when I was really little. A lot of time was spent watching older kids play Street Fighter II since I usually didn't have enough quarters to play more than a game or two. The atmosphere was really something else!
House of the dead was my game. My father and I beat them all. I just recently found an arcade bar with the original house of the dead in it and I was in nostalgia heaven. I’m so much better at it than when I was a kid now that I can solo it. I can’t wait to get my dad in there as he’s still a gamer at 56
A very lovely piece! Made me realize how much I really miss arcades, the many games & sound going on and everyone playing across the entire room.
Used to be very big into arcade shooters (probably still am!), from House of the Dead to Time Crisis and so on!
Still remember the first time I've actually beaten my first arcade game from start to end was CarnEvil! That game had eaten so many of my quarters when I was younger!
