To escape Umakao's stomping hoofs, the poor, transformed knight darted into the hollow of a dead tree, a hole far too small for the oni to get into. But getting after a helpless rat really wasn't Umakao's goal. What did he need to finish off a rat for? It was just a harmless little rodent. He left it to fend for itself, taking only a moment to taunt and laugh before forgetting all about it.
The knight, however, would never forget. The encounter had changed his life forever.
