Moxie Cola is said to have a rather bitter flavor, with flavor and odor derived from gentian root, a main ingredient. This unusual soda was introduced in the US in 1876. It's popularity has faded a bit, but it's still a hit in the New England area. I've yet to try it, but would like to one day. At one time, they also had Cherry and Cream Soda flavors.

Hi there. Just wanted to pop in and let you know that Moxie is not cherry cola. Moxie did produce a cherry flavored version(along with a creme soda and currently an energy drink) but it no longer does, and has not for years. Moxie's flavor is actually quite bitter in comparison to most colas and its flavor and odor derives from its use of gentian root as a major ingredient.
Just a bit of a correction there.
