A feral species: resembling that of axolotls and dogs. And a twist of angler fish.
Females are a majority of the species, hatching about 99.5% of the time. If a female remains by herself for long she will lay a single egg which will hatch male. Unfertilized eggs are males and fertilized are females.
Males have more vibrant colors, and Bioluminescence. They are prized for their ferocity and colors. Females can have brighter colors but they aren't easily contrasted since they rarely have black in their skins and fins.

They have a pack mentality, its one matriarch of a female with the rest of her females following behind her, till she ether hatches her own male or obtains a mate. The males are more of guardians and will protect the pack, and the matriarch guides the pack.

They do breed quite quickly and are treated similar to vermin on the Citadel, and are then targeted for delicacies and meat. Their meat is similar to that of uncooked tuna with the flavors of salmon. Their diets determine some of the flavors, so sometimes they are herded to make the best meats. Also they will cannibalize eachother.
