Paw Fashion 4: 'Seyene' boot
See? Starting to branch out a little bit more on the design now. As much as my usual preference is for open-toe pawboots, it seems worth experimenting with closed toes as well for a variety of reasons. If it's a boot meant something more practical like some form of protection from the elements, having open toes could kind of defeat the purpose. In this case however, it's a choice to do with style.
I envision these boots as being a bit more dressy and classy, less casual than the Naya and Hyari designs. While the leather is still very soft and luxurious, the boot is tighter and more form-fitting for a sleeker, more elegant look. The closed toes are meant to advance this same look.
Designing the toe of the boot was certainly an exercise in experimentation. If you make it narrow like a human boot by comparison, you've got no room for the toes to splay and balance and it would awkward and silly for a few seconds, before you teetered and fell over, thus looking even more silly. On the other hand, if the toe is a single broad curve wide enough to accommodate the range needed by digitigrade toes, they'd probably end up looking like clown shoes. So what I'm trying out here is a bit of a compromise. The toes are fully closed in, but the design of the boot still shows off or suggests the shape of the underlying paw, resulting in what I hope is a still somewhat natural and attractive look. I imagine the thin but sturdy sole, probably rubber, being segmented along key contours to allow a little bit of flexibility. The metal toe caps act as a sort of jewelry if you will, in my mind helping the boot look both a little more elegant and imposing.
This design I do picture as possibly being a slightly more feminine design, but... well, two things. For one, societal gender roles are silly and outdated, and if I can depict myself as a dragon than I can ignore them as I see fit. Secondly, I'm too lazy to want to draw a totally different set of legs just to model one or two designs. ;)
tl;dr verson: Look! More pawboots!

Indeed. :) These ones are still fashion boots first, so don't offer all the same protection from the elements some of my later, more practical styles will, but they will keep your paws clean! As for smell I don't imagine they'd end up any worse than a normal pair of tall boots a human would wear.
Hehe, fair enough. ;) In the case of this boot they're just for style, since they and the soles actually cover the claws, but I think it works well to convey a sort of implied threat about them all the same. With this boot intended to look more elegant and fancy, that's sort of a thought I had too with them... they keep the wearer's paws out of the mud, and carries an implication that they're high class and refined enough that they don't have to 'lower' themselves to having their bare toes touch the ground, or using their claws as weapons. They might be some sort of high-class noble or aristocrat or something who is above such crude things. And yet the claw caps still convey a sense of threat, that the claws being covered should not be mistaken for a lack of power.
Just the ideas kicking around in my own head, anyway. :) It can be interpreted any way you like!

Hehe! Yeah I stumbled across the artist doing commissions for these and needed one immediately. XD I like Tron and I like pretty shiny glowy things! Full size version is in my favorites if you wanna see that or the other ones the artist has done.
And yeah I'm happy how the toecaps came out, I feel like it really completes the look of the boot. :)

I certainly agree on all counts. :) Glad you feel the same way! I've long had a love of tall boots like this, and wanted to find a good way to merge them with the digitigrade dragon paws I also love and preserve the sleek strength and elegance of a closed toe. So I'm pleased with how these came out, and excited to find others who like them too!
