From the worlds Nick is from there are many varieties of mechs: Highly mobile light mechs, heavily armored and armed heavy and assault mechs, strike mechs that run the balance between the two, large command mechs that serve as mobile command platforms. While custom mechs with enhanced capabilities that blur the line aren't super rare every now and then you get ones of an exceedingly rare variety: The final word in mech technology: PSI-Mechs. Equipped with extraordinarily rare psionic amplifier technology, this allows psionic pilots to use their powers to their full potential at the scale demanded by mechanized combat.

One of these rare psi-mechs is the Polar Star, piloted by Nicholas Klondike. Having found the technology in salvageable condition in some ancient Lacave ruins he's taken the time to painstakingly integrate it into his custom heavy mech, allowing him to use his mech as an extension for his abilities such as being able to teleport his entire mech, create large-scale spatial distortions, and conjure storms of ice. Of course, it's bad practice to rely entirely on one's psychic abilities, so he's also equipped his mech with high-quality armor and a loadout of short-range weapons including short-range missiles and a quartet of flak autocannons, allowing him to deal devastating amounts of damage with or without his psionic abilities.
