Actually there were quite a few cartoons back then that rose above their origins and turned out pretty well. He-Man is an example, and for the classic boys cartoon in retrospect it had quite a few strong female characters, a good lesson all round in fact. I certainly enjoyed it.
Interesting tale: Mattel originally planned to introduce a line of Conan the Barbarian figures based on the Ahnuld S. movies.
