A close up of the illumination on the Gryphon Bestiary page. And to kind of show off that pretty raised gold ;) So shiny!
The illumination is 2x3", on hotpress watercolour paper. Made with Higgins Black Magic Ink, genuine 23.75k gold leaf (adhesive is Instacoll, applied rather thickly to give it the raised/puffy appearance), and gouache paints.

Well, I usually just "paint" the adhesive on and let it set over night (on the bottle, it says it's ready in about an hour). I use Patent Gold Leaf, which is "stuck" to the tissue until I place it gold-side on the adhesive, give it a rub, and it sticks to the adhesive :) I have no patience for loose gold leaf XD That stuff will fly away even with the slightest breeze from your breath.
....Actually, so will Patent gold leaf once it's brushed away >.>; But at least I can handle it better than the loose stuff XD
