Despite being the newest page, there's so much that I don't like about this one. For me, I know it's very rushed. If I had to do it over... honestly I'd just add better backgrounds for the first two panels and maybe a potted plant or something in the bottom two panels. It just looks so bare, especially compared to the 3rd and 4th panels.
So anyway, there's really nothing all that special about the Natures "magic system" that is genuinely relevant to the story. For example, the 8 Affinities will never be mentioned again. Mind you, there is so much more to how Calypsia's "magic system" works that I could literally teach a college level course on the topic alone.
Ugh, I didn't even have a chance to mention that the abilities are also divided up into "Natural Abilities" and "Innate Powers". The former being something that can be turned on and off, while the latter is uncontrollable and permanently "On". Oh well, at least I got in there the important parts about everyone having Nature AND that whatever abilities they possess are random (aka not genetically passed down) and are "rare" due to the fact that each person has to discover what abilities they have for themselves.
Ooh, and as a bonus, the little bit of lore/worldbulding about how being any specific species of Furry in Calypsia is also not genetically determined. I mean, some things are more likely to happen if certain conditions are met, but overall not significantly. It's why any animosity between Furries and Humans isn't really a thing and even "Speciesism" doesn't really apply.

There’s always a chance of an aside like
Valsalia does for their comic.
That’s interesting that species is basically random. I’ve seen one or two furry settings that worked like that (though one was because it was cameo-heavy). Kind of avoids the issue of whether different-species couples are compatible.

You mean Out-of-Placers or Lusty Argonian Maid'd? The first, pretty sure that the magic stone did that.. the second is heavily dependent upon which stereotype the subject is the most heavily thinking about.... Oh, you mean the explanation dump thing. Yeah, i really hate it for my comics because it feels lazy or like I'm patronizing my audience who should be able to figure it out themselves. The obvious exception being when a character is literally being taught the thing... like say how Gon and Killua learned about Nen (even though they were purposefully taught wrong at first).
Yeah, I kind of seen it before. I know that in Toddlergirl's original comic, she altered people's fursona slightly so that they could fit better. Like one of her brothers was a Flareon, but now he's a orange fluffy squirrel... Just for example's sake.
Mind you some of the exceptions that I'm most concerned about are the compatibility of egg layers vs livebirth. I really don't like the idea of a mammal having to give live birth to a lizard or an avian mother laying an egg with a puppy inside. The manifesting animal side comes around (at the latest) during puberty. And of course, if you have parents who are both of a specific species then the offspring would more likely also be of that species. However, at all times the most likely (common species) that one can/will be born as is human. That said, all DNA tests wouldn't show the animalistic traits, but rather the traits that you'd have if you were human all along (or using a previously mentioned Catalyst). Honestly, I probably shouldn't even be concerned about possible egglaying thing, because... it's not like they're 1:1 the animals that they look like anyway..... Still think about it alot though.

Yeah, I mean the little worldbuilding journal entries about Yinglet society and such. I can see why you would dislike an exposition dump like that.
I was actually referring to Toddlergirl's comic. I followed it back in my early days in the fandom.
So kids in Calypsia are usually born human and TF into an anthro animals at a certain age? Fun way to grow up. As to the egg/live birth thing, I remember thinking of that while reading Kevin and Kell. I think one comic had a group for interspecies couples including one couple that was a mammal/bird pairing. My mind goes to some reptiles which have eggs that hatch internally as a sort of in-between.

Well, Valsalia didn't really put such entries directly into the comic, but they were nice reads. I'm talking more about how the MC is learning about Yinglet culture from the Matriarch (and the freaky blond guy...). That's much more natural and professional than what I did here. It's also more what I wish to do with future pages. Like how you at least suspected that Roger had an ability too simply because the two of them happened to bring the topic up. They did so without completely stepping out of the comic. I did it the way I had because I remember that small Chibi thing I did back when Brenda and Roger were talking about Alex... And honestly, I wanted to draw something cute.
She really was surprisingly good at what she did. Even back when her art was "bad", her story and even basic layout was top notch.
The born human thing was always a posiblity that I considered. My only concern about it, is that some people may feel like something is wrong when the shift does/doesn't happen. However, I think that there is an element that the body (while random) is still comfortable to the personality. Similar to how we decide our Fursonas. I didn't choose to be a raccoon... my first choice was a dog, but the idea never "felt right". Raccoon just... stuck. The other reason for this is because some Abilities don't activate until after puberty. I'm thinking of two in particular, but this is moreso a safety measure built into the magic system. That way we don't have any flying babies or combustible toddlers.
That in-between thing is an interesting idea... As for myself, I really do think that I should stick with the idea that the outside looks animal, but internally they're still essentially human (any potential skills associated with the species not withstanding and I don't just mean claws or tails. As I do like the idea of say a Horse wouldn't get tired from standing all the time, simply because he's naturally built that way).

That reminds me a bit of MHA and concerns about a quirk not manifesting by a certain age. So, basically that some kid who becomes a wolf would feel natural as a wolf? Though I imagine there’s still an adjustment even if it just like accommodating a new tail when putting on pants.
The idea of powers manifesting at puberty is a common one. The idea of a toddler with any real power is terrifying when you think about it.
The last point kind of feeds into definitions I mentioned earlier about the distinction some make between furry and anthro.

Not really. Just wear your normal pants backwards until you can buy the ones with a proper tail loop, like the ones they've been wearing.
Seriously, I'm outright surprised more people didn't think of it.
Not that it really matters as one has to discover what their ability is first. This is more of a protection against the Innate Abilities from causing problems before the child is old enough to at least understand it.
However, the whole "Affinities" thing is also tied to another part of the Nature's system. Namely the ability to focus the Affinity itself for three specific.. techniques. Only two can done by anyone, the last one can only be done by those with a single Affinity.... I'm doing that thing again.
