This specific design was given away.
A new personal dragon species for myself.
I had a lot of fun coming up with their design and history.
The Merc Drake above is a personal character named Geode.
Geomancy on furcadia.
History so far below in case you are curious.
Mercurial Drakes are not natural dragons, instead they are created from stolen dragon eggs exposed to vast amounts of geomancer magics. This process is very complex and even when done by the most seasoned of hands the results vary dramatically and usually fail, resulting in fatality for the unborn. However for those that survive the process and live long enough to hatch, are successfully created Mercurial Drakes. For a long while this has just been noted as mutations for their previous species, however after many years they have finally earned classification as a very rare species all of their own.
Priced for their vast array of colors and styles, merc drakes are the ideal pet for the most elite of the wealthy and privileged. The only downside is that early merc drakes wouldn't live long, most dying right before the gates of adolescents. Their unstable bodies proving just too great a burden to survive in. HOWEVER there would be a ray of hope for some, proving to have more grit then their common peers to not only survive their birth but to live past and even mature into full fledged drakes. These are very rare and even rarier still is a fertile merc drake.
Thus is has only been accounted for that only a slim few, a mere handful, have been able to live long enough and mature into vital brood mothers and sires. However it wasn't long after this discovery that ethical laws and humanitarian standards began to clash heads against their creation. Seen as unlawful and a crime against nature, the creation of merc dragons became taboo and banned in most societies and when the wealthy refused, raids were beset upon the large brood facilities and their captives liberated and set free.
This point in time for them was known as The Separation, where the merc drakes were freed from captivity and set free into the world. Life for them from now on was either sink or swim. A struggle for even the strong as they attempted to carve out a living. Luckily though most of them grouped together and vanished into the vast mountain ranges to the west.
At present, the great western mountains have become the Mercurian Expanse, a vast range of high stone peaks and deep rocky trenches coated in beautiful crystals and protective rocky structures. This is the only known settlement of the Mercurial Dragonkin and are ruled by three prime matriarchs whom of which have produced several broods of True Mercurials.
Mercurial drakes have special abilities, unique to their species. One is the total manipulation of minerals, able to shape, merge with, or craft them as if it were second nature. Another and possible the most strange of all is their ability to give off radiation. While usually weak and Benign, it can turn malignant if threatened or enraged. Exposure to malignant mercurial radiation can cause horrible sickness and even cancer. However continued exposure can cause the a rapid case of Cellular Crystallization, which as it's name explains, is the crystallization of one's cells which is both painful and eventually fatal. They can also breath fire, though this is not uncommon for dragons, their flame is known for it's vast array of color and intensity, dependant on the color of set individual merc!
