Back in September last year, I paid a visit with family to the West Somerset Railway, which has the longest stretch of heritage-only railway line in the country, running between Bishop's Lydeard and Minehead. One of the engines operating on that like is the Swindon-built Manor-class no' 7822, named 'Foxcote Manor'. She was built in 1950, and operated in border areas between England and Wales for her 15 years of service. Notably, she once pulled the Royal Train that was operated by the Great Western region. After retirement in 1965, she was moved to the huge scrapyard at Barry, South Wales, from which she was bought by the Cambrian Railway Society in 1974. She returned to heritage rail services in 1988, and has jumped between heritage railways in the 35 years since.
