There was a fair chunk of my own adult life where any item at a restaurant being the equivalent of $14 would have meant I either saved up for two months in advance in order to order the cheapest thing on the menu or, more often, just didn't go. Definitely know those feels, Adrian.
A quick check has store brand frozen wieners at $3.50CAD for 12, which would be enough for the meat portion of 4-6 adult meals.
Note that when she says "hot dogs" she probably doesn't mean something properly grilled and served up in a bun with an assortment of toppings. She means 2-3 wieners that were boiled from frozen on a plate next to whatever she's doing for a veg, (probably either canned or frozen), and a starch.

I do wonder... Do Hilde have other income beside her yoga class teacher job? I mean, she and Adrian should have the same wage, yet Hilde seem to have a completly different standard of living than kanga mama...
