William Stewart is the oldest of the Rangers, the men and women who wander the world in search of those who need their help. Now in his late 50's, he's the only Ranger who remembers what the world was like before the Event, being barely 7 at the time. Before they died, his mentors would tell him not to dwell on what has been lost, but to focus on what could be rebuilt. It's advice he took to heart long ago, but some days it's hard not to dwell what it was like to have the internet, showers, and so many other things that he and others took for granted.
