Yeah, it's been nearly a year, I gotta post SOMETHING.
I've noted that, as a geek, I've weirdly never been into sci-fi very much...quite comfy living in this timeframe thank you, not the least of which is because I don't mesh well with new technology. So while this is probably old hat to a lot of you, I'm still catching up!
But my parents were into the Star Trek series, so I had a lot of exposure growing up. I've never seen TOS in full, but I saw almost all the movies with them, and a fair amount of TNG. I believe they both cite DS9 as their favorite, but I had moved out by then. So teh hubby is another fan, and I at least got up to speed on most of the newer series (he's not into TOS either) and the rest of the movies. I think I've enjoyed Voyager the most, mainly because I liked the cast overall the best...I found almost everyone likable, and maybe the close quarters and common goal made everyone try to get along as well as possible.
Neither of us saw the original animated series and were in no hurry to do so, so when Lower Decks came out, he wasn't particularly interested--we basically took a peek only when we had a dearth of new material. And then it turns out we actually both liked it a lot; a lighter touch, faster half-hour pacing, good mix of action/drama with the comedy, not too "adult" (as the hubby puts it, no Game of Thrones In Space) and not too juvenile, fun series-spanning easter eggs...and an excellent cast. The second season closer is probably my favorite, a heart stopping rescue with an intelligent, solution-oriented touch. All three season finales are great, really.
The funny thing is, the more I watched, the more the relationship between Mariner and Boimler hit home (for Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans, equal parts Mariner/Boimler + Peralta/Santiago sums up our interactions pretty well). Mariner is impulsive, sharp-witted, good at improvisation, with a strong moral compass that simply doesn't quite align with Starfleet's. Boimler is by the books, anal, fussy, and a bit skittish about his comfort zone. And they play off each other so well, encouraging each other's strengths and covering each other's weaknesses...being too alike would be mutually irritating, so being very different just works, and they're both smart, curious, active, and have great senses of humor. Even though I pray they don't fall for the old trope and hook up, they do have quite the Old Married Couple vibe.
Appropriate quotes:
Mariner: "It was, ahhh--" *eyes widen, hits switch hastily* "...it was--it was set to stun!"
Boimler: "Aaaagh Cave Bugs!"
So, I tried to draw this. The art style is WAY cleaner than I could ever manage, and there's also only a handful of canine references, but I felt it was cuter as furries than humans. The simplified anatomy was really hard to stick to, though I knew I had to keep teh hubby's beefy legs...and lack of shoes. I only wanted the indirect Mariner/Boimler references, so I went with his outfit and my hair--which works better in purple than it has any right to. I think the background looked a bit tidier before I added the blur filter, but the motion was needed IMHO.
Lord knows what we're getting into, but I'm sure it'll be fun and catastrophic, as it should be. I opted to keep us both in the science field (he suggested Engineering for me...from nearly all episodes it seems they just are under pressure too often, no thanks), and we're undoubtedly going to acquire some technology to play--er, experiment with. Hence my expression. Frankly I'd be surprised if I didn't leave a wave of computer errors in my wake.
If only Picard was as cheerful to watch...

Yay! You posted something again! *throws confetti*
Haha, Star Trek. Awesome! XD I seen that show and movies a few times before, but I really couldn't get into it. I think I'm more of a Star Wars guy (the originals only). But it's cool to see you draw your own version of the series. I love seeing people draw their own versions of popular series.
Dev is still looking bulky as always. His shirt looks tight on him and barely staying buttoned.
Aww, and Kyle looks so cute in this style too. He even looks great with that purple hair. So cute! XD
Hmm, I wonder what kind of mission they are heading off to do now. And I wonder who else is on their ship.
It's always a joy to see your posts. Even if it's a simple drawing. Keep up the outstanding work! *hug*

I was pleasantly surprised by Lower Decks, and it's a welcome change in tone and style from Picard and Discovery.
TOS is definitely an acquired taste, and a lot of it doesn't age well, but I do have to defend the animated series. Yes, it's animation was stiff and awkward, even for its time, but they had some good story concepts and did things that couldn't have been done in live action.
I rewatched all of the Trek series except Enterprise back when covid first started. Voyager was much better the second time around, but I still hate Seven's uniform. DS9 was still good, even if I hated how Terry Farrel got written out. And I still feel like both shows had finales that were a little abrupt.
If you're looking for another science fiction series to watch/listen to, I have two that I highly recommend- Farscape (on Tubi and Puto) and Wolf 359 (at wolf359.fm). Both happen to have characters who often have trouble with the tech they deal with, which you'll probably appreciate.

I'm actually pretty similar: while I've enjoyed some sci fi in my life, it was never really my main interest. What's more, I don't mesh well with new technology either: I never got a smartphone/iphone. I still use a flip-phone. XD Though to my credit, I do have a laptop, so that's gotta count for something, right? Lol!
I was never into Star Trek myself, and my exposure to it was *waaay* less than yours, so I wouldn't get a lot of the references. Heck, I never even heard of Lower Decks until now! ^^ But from what you described, it does sound like a fun show - especially if it's comparable to Brooklyn 99. x3
Anyway, onto the drawing itself:
Oh my gosh, this is so *ADORABLE*!!! I love the more simplistic design, you did really well on that! Haha, plus, yes, Dev's legs are nice and beefy (as is the rest of him; he's a glorious tank of muscle and fluff). :D And you yourself look quite adorable all small and skinny with the purple hair (which yes, does seem to work). You also made the right call making the background blurry, as it does add an extra dash of energy! I hope you both have fun once you do get your paws on that technology.
Well done, dude! Well done! :D

Gotta admit, ya did a cute ref of the show's style. I admit, while parents enjoyed fantasy and sci-fi. I actually haven't watched any star trek series or movies. And when I saw the trailers for the animated show, didn't know if it was gonna be Rick n Morty-esque or Game of Thrones in space-esque, heh. But if it's similar in comedy to B99, I'll give it a watch. Btw, ya both do look good in the uniform, the Hubby, barely contained and your hair in purple does look good XD
