For a discount swiming pool, it really wasn’t that bad. The floor tiles were perpetually wet and there was that smell that accompanied all pools, not quite chemical not quite not-chemical. But there weren’t really any kids during school hours so aside from a few recreational swimmers she had the pool largely to herself. Large glass windows arched overhead, letting in a lot of natural sunlight and the walls of the building seemed almost more glass than they were brick, likely it was good advertising to let people see other folk having fun and swimming. But it also made the place feel natural and roomy, which Cassie appreciated as she approached the front of the pool.
A human and a fox shared one corner of the pool, playing games they would have played when they were younger, while an otter expertly did the breast stroke from one end to the other in a part sectioned off into lanes. That was where Cassie headed. It had been years and years since she’d been swimming, but in highschool she was pretty good at it. More importantly, she had liked being in the water. Swimming, diving, it was all a special kind of exercise you didn’t really get anywhere else. She waddled her pregnant-looking self over to the edge of the lanes and then slowly lowered herself until she sat on the ledge.
With less splash than expected, Cassie slid into the pool. After a moment of temperature adjustment, it all felt very familiar. Pushing herself off the end of the swimming pool she started doing a backstroke, just to get into the rhythm of swimming again. It was a little clumsy at first and she swallowed more than a little water getting into it, but soon she watched the arched windows overhead passing by as her body fell into the familiar groove. One lap later the doe switched to freestyle, recalling after a few moments the cycle of swimming, breathing, swimming, breathing. A few more gulps of water later and she was almost doing alright at it, even with the swell of her stomach getting in the way. She had skipped breakfast that morning and already felt full, but it was probably just her mind playing tricks on her. A few mouthfuls of icky pool water wouldn’t do much to fill up her tank.
Cassie was on her fourth lap when she began to feel a gentle tugging at her swimsuit. It felt too tight, but Cassie ignored it. Her swimsuit had felt tight when she had pulled it on, that wasn’t likely to have changed in the hours since wearing it. But even if she didn’t notice the changes happening to her, the otter taking her break on the side of the pool a few lanes over did. Her eyebrow raised in surprise as the doe who swam back to her side of the pool looked a little wider than the one who had left a few minutes ago. And then when she came back, wider still. It was subtle at first, like the moving of the minute hand on a clock she couldn’t really tell when looking at Cassie what was happening, but the doe’s swimsuit was looking tighter by the lap. Heavily pregnant was becoming pregnant with twins - except for the fact that her one piece was exacerbating her love handles in a way that nobody with a pregnant stomach that big could have. Almost as though she were softer than she should have been.
Inches piled on but Cassie was too lost to the moment to notice - until a small tear suddenly released all the built up pressure she’d been ignoring. Her swimming interrupted, Cassie groaned inwardly and looked down, her stomach did look massive! At least one and a half times what it had been before she’d gotten into the pool.
She tried to tell herself, that’s probably just the refraction of the water, right?
Her swimsuit looked intact, and as loose as ever. She didn’t see or feel the twin rips up the side of it that now bulged like small footballs. Still a little self conscious, Cassie decided that she had had enough with swimming and the otter who was watching got a look at her climbing precariously up the ladder out of the pool.
For one thing her stomach was squishing against the side of the ladder and the otter had to wonder - did that deer’s ass look bigger than it had a few moments ago? The otter fanned her face, shrugged and slid back into the pool again. Exercise waits for no critter.
