An amazing commission I got from
Nanori-chan. They haven't uploaded it to their FA yet, but definitely give their gallery a look.
After being stood by a first date, Virizion meets a friendly Jigglypuff. But not everything is quite as it seems.
This will be a multipart endeavor, so keep an eye out for the other parts.
Virizion drummed her fingers on the table. She was sitting alone at a booth in a cafe, empty except for her and the lone Jigglypuff getting ready for closing time. She turned and looked at the clock on the wall.
8:27. Her date had said to meet at 7:00. Virizion pulled her phone out of her pocket and checked her texts.
Last message: "hey, you coming?". Sent: 8:01 PM. Read: 8:09 PM.
The green pokemon let out a bitter sigh. It was true, wasn't it? She had really been stood up. Before she could stop herself, Virizion swiped out of her message app and over to her photos app. At the top of her camera roll were the pictures her absent date had sent her. A row and half of selfies of a gorgeous, confident Gardevoir.
Virizion set her phone down, her hand shaking. She let out another sigh, angry tears welling up in her eyes. Why? Serena, the Gardevoir, had seemed so real during their chats. Why would she do this to her? If she really wanted to back out, why wouldn't she say something?!
Virizion had thought this would finally be the one; that this time would be different. Why did this keep happening to her? Was there something wrong with her?
"Hey," a squeaky androgenous voice cut in.
Virizion turned. It was the Jigglypuff, probably here to kick her out so they could close up.
"You doing okay?" they asked, their voice resonating with genuine concern.
Virizion took a deep breath, recovering as much of her composure as she could manage.
"Do I look okay?" she said, flippantly. Virizion felt a little bad. She shouldn't take out her frustration on this poor service worker.
The Jigglypuff seemed unphased.
"Date ditch you?" they asked.
Virizion didn't respond, but her face told them well enough.
"I figured it was something like that... Give me a moment," they said before disappearing. They soon returned with a plate with a slice of cake on it.
"On the house," they said, setting the plate on the table in front of her.
Virizion looked surprised. In truth, she had been eyeing that cake in the display case.
"Are you sure?" she asked, fumbling for her wallet. "I can pay for-"
"Don't worry about it," the Jigglypuff cut her off. "You've had a rough night. You deserve this. In fact, if you'd like, I could sing for you. I've often been told I could've gone pro."
Virizion smiled. It was a sweet gesture, it really was. But she also knew what Jigglypuff songs did to people.
"Thanks," she said, her voice starting to steady. "But I think I'll pass. I have to drive home, after all."
"What if I made you a cup of coffee?" the Jigglypuff insisted. "There's still a pot going. It and the song'll cancel each other out. Trust me, its what my vocal coach used to do."
Virizion looked at the small pink ball again. They had been so kind, and they clearly were excited to serenade her. What the hell, its not like her evening could get any worse.
"Sure, we can do that," she replied. The Jigglypuff thanked her and bounced over behind the counter, quickly returning with a hot cup of coffee.
Virizion took a sip of coffee and a bite of cake and waited for the Jigglypuff to begin. They hopped onto the table in front of her, and began weaving a melody. Virizion listened, absentmindedly sipping her beverage. It was beautiful. So delicate, yet so gripping. And so very, very... potent?
Virizion could feel her mind start to slip, as sleep drifted in to take her. She must not have drank enough coffee! She downs the rest of the cup in a great gulp, hoping to feel the jolt of caffeine through her. But the coffee seemed to only make it worse. Virizion involuntarily slumped forward, her head thumping into the table.
With the last of her strength, she looked up at the Jigglypuff in horror, begging them with her eyes to stop. They returned her a wicked grin and kept singing. Virizion's eyes drooped shut, and her world was swallowed in darkness.
