No that's wrong. Parents by and large do know what's best for their children, but they don't know what's best for the adult they grow into. This is a very important distinction.
A 10 year old trying to drink bleach shouldn't have to "experience it." to know that it's lethal.

There are indeed very damaged people out there raising kids to be just as damaged as they are, but those are the exceptions not the rule. The problem is that there's not enough engagement by parents these days to prevent raising kids that will then proceed to fail in raising their own kids.
TLDR: You're not wrong.

Though, to be fair, Cody did sorta initiate this whole confrontation with how amazingly rude he was to his dad, in his own house. HIs attitude and alone would be enough to create red flags in most parents regardless of the relationship dynamic.
I almost got a feeling that dad would have been less upset with them being together, if he wasn't such a colossal jerk about it. He seems like a decently reasonable guy for the time period being depicted here.

That would be something, but why stop there? A plotline that I very rarely see is is two people who love each other and get married, only to disvover later, that the love they had was deep and strong, but not romantic and they never noticed until something dramatic happens (ie meeting someone they have explosive chemistry with). Its something that really subverts a lot of the expectations of what Love is and how many shapes it can take, but its so hard to find
I kind of gasped reading this, such strong and raw emotional energy. Honestly... it is hard to have such courage and power in reality when facing adversity. Seeing it conveyed this way... well this page alone can be considered a lesson on how to show strength when defending a loved one against those that are close.
I'm really hoping the dad's reaction means he's being shocked into rethinking how he feels. Sure, he might need some time to come to terms with the situation. He'd most certainly need to agree to keep the relationship a secret. But his reaction suggests that he's probably realizing if he doesn't start now, he's going to lose any future relationship with his son.
Holy shit....now....this has a good ending or bad ending. the fear and hurt is all over the father's face. but at the same time...he was stunned about the cross....which I think may of "broken his shelves" on the "traditional side of religion" on one hand...what he said and done to Willy has done a lot of damage and this could amp his hate more but in a sad "I failed my boy to protect him from evil" sort of way...or....the good ending "Your mother would be proud of you found someone that shows the best of you even if your both....men. It....will take me awhile to come to terms with this"...and the Happy ending would be a wedding to tie the knot and him saying "I hope you boys be adopting because I want grand kids"
