Favoritism and the lack of employee investment. I cannot tell you how many places these days don't even want to bother training new-hires. Seems to be that it's sink or swim when it comes to the disorders of common work life now, and you are expected to figure things out on your own.
They don't want to invest in people because it's not about retention anymore, even with the state of things now. It's about saving money, and spending less time getting people up to speed when they're going to be ground down and burnt out sooner than later and jumping ship. Get someone who has even a year of experience and 9 out of 10 times they'll just grab them instead.
They don't care to help you get experience. Their cards are all on the table even when they're telling you that "we're family here."

actually thats a really good answer to the question. its like how with the really big businesses, its not about what you know, its about WHO you know. You just happen to be the son of one of the CEOs weekend golfing buddies? well congrats, you are IN, heres a nice office and a fat paycheck. you went to harvard, graduated top of your class and were valedictorian, but no one has ever heard of you? enjoy life in the mailroom or as a unpaid intern.
You know, funny story. That's actually how I got stuck at my current job. I've had no graveyard experience, and I needed specific cards, so they were leery. But the moment I said I wanted graveyard, they just excitedly ignored everything and yanked me aboard. No one had applied for months. And the trend follows almost a year later.
I'm sure she made the right choice and absolutely no vandalism and violation of company property and policy will take place over the next six nights.
I mean, what are the chances a suspicious employee at a facility with animatronics at night would do anything illegal? I bet it must be pretty low!
