(russian speakers forgive me. I googled 'kosmozayats' and it came up with a stuffed toy rabbit astronaut, so I assumed it sort of worked)

Again, the collage look carries the day!
The juxtaposition of Cyrillic characters and the tape recorder sparked an old memory. Years ago when I worked at Radio Shack, someone brought in a Russian-made 'portable' reel-to-reel tape recorder for repair. Unfortunately, the company didn't repair other makes, but as a former audiovisual tech I offered to see what I could do on my own. It was beautifully made but it was very heavy, overbuilt like crazy. Over the weekend I cleaned and tuned everything, lubricating mechanical parts and adjusting the recording head. It worked perfectly Monday morning!

Hah that's fantastic! Reel-to-reel machines look like some real beasts. Impressive you were able to get it working! :> (A slight tangent, and you might be familiar with the channel already, but Techmoan did this interesting vid about a company producing brand new incredibly expensive tape reels which was a fun watch (he starts talking about the new ones midway through the video): https://youtu.be/5KHSz9Gi-II You might've seen some of these too, but Kerri Chandler does these great House sets where he mixes on reel-to-reel, which is great just for the tech alone: https://youtu.be/c4pdWOf93oo )
I love geeking out on 'antique' equipment (I collected antique cameras for years, until the bargain hunter shows cleaned out the supply and drove the prices up). I have several contacts here on Fur Affinity who swear by Compact Cassette tape and even produce their own work on cassette. (* shrugs *) To each their own. Today I prefer to buy my music on Compact Disc and rip it to MP3. My car stereo will play most MP3s but only some WMA rips, and nothing else. I'll see what happens with my next ride, if any.
