It was a mystery to me why Emmy, having more protection from sunlight than other vampires, still preferred to be nocturnal and avoided sunlight (especially noon). And then I thought about the true appearance of the Witches. They are masters of transformation, but each of them has their own true 'beast form', spiritual, and we know that Emmy's is Caracal. She, being the Autumn Witch of the Moon, is a creature of Darkness and Night, and therefore, with prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, she turns into a caracal. Something like... a witch's curse/feature? I think this may also be true of the Witches of the Sun, but in reverse. Emmy can turn into a caracal in other cases, maybe even when frightened, I think with age the Witch learns to control her transformation.
