if you ever get the chance to play them both, i highly recommend playing them in order as the 2nd game's plot has a lot to do with the protagonist of the 1st game!
i will say that the controls in the second game felt a lot smoother in terms of character-control than the first one, though i think the 1st game had cooler Devastator Attacks than the 2nd (kind of late-game Ultimate Area-Of-Effect attacks)
all in all, really cool games that are worth playing, they have a TON of side-content and collectibles and stuff though so it can be a rabbit-hole if you're a completionist ^^;
