Hey, it was especially in those days, that when you didn't get proper funding, you had to focus on ingenuity, which in turn made great shows.
These days, if you're low on money, you slap together a crappy idea filled with references to various things, coupled with low-quality special effects (made by a team of up to 1 guys), which are probably there in the first place to distract the audience from the insanely crap story.
