In ancient times, gryphons would confuse would-be thieves be creating fake eggs, later using them to store treasures within. Statues were later built to hold fake eggs, some themselves just being stone shells, and some containing treasure of special utility or purpose.
For Kyrodian Legends, these statues function like the Chozo statues from Metroid, holding upgrades for Midi during his dive into the ancient gryphon stronghold, Gullsandur.
