In the Norse mythology comes the day of the Ragnorok. Fenrir just killed Odin and herself was fatally wounded. But before her death by the wound delivered by Odin (before she was brought back to life) she faces off Odin's faithful steed; Sleipnir, as himself were also fatally wounded, on their final stand in the day of the Ragnorok.

The story of Fenrir and it's battle with Odin and his steed were pretty much canon.
