Snow gently crunched beneath her feet, leaving a trail in the mix of snow and ice, sparce tufts of grass still stubbornly protruding despite the lateness of the season. The stream was nearly silent, water lazily flowing down from the mountains, creating a nearly mirror shine reflecting the majesty of the mountains above and the brilliant gold of the setting sun behind the clouds. She turned her gaze up, past the snow covered pines and the mountains of perpetual winter to the golden evening sunburst.
The scene was undeniably beautiful, magnificent oranges and golds cresting the snow capped peaks. And yet… she felt morose, filled with a sudden and intense feeling of melancholy. There was something tragic about the imagery before her, though she knew not why. Despite the chill air and the freezing snow beneath her feet, it was as if the very sky was burning. As if the sky itself was shedding tears of fire.
