Inspiration! I was wondering how I would explain... the past...

I have something very particular in mind for this week's prompt- I cooked up the basic narrative and fleshed it out on the way home with my brother from our weekly Thursday grocery errand in his work van- but I took a moderately nasty fall just after getting out of the van at home and my head is still fuzzy and I'm in a reasonable amount of pain, so I hope you'll all allow me a day or two to set my head on straight before I put fingers to keyboard and presented writ.

Hey there, Atomic_Alex, Vixxyfox! Sorry for being radio silent since Thursday or Friday; I'm in one piece and there was no sign of my being concussed, and the bruising on the back of my neck and spine is mostly gone; the limited surface skin laceration now left to a gentle, un-angry scabbing that's been flaking off the last two showers I've had.
The fall was my fault in being a bit too speedy and careless; Thursday morning, when my brother and I went out in his work van for our grocery errand, is also dustbin collection day here in my neighbourhood, and the big huge Blue Recycling bin was collected and partly blocking the driveway. My brother stopped the van to idle briefly, and allow me to get out, move the bin abaft and out of the driveway egress, which I did and then would've waited until his van was all the way in and engine stopped, then I'd put the bin back further in the driveway past the front parking pad.
Thing is, my younger self's proprioception did me a poor number; there's a long, roundish fence of quarried stone in a line of individual rocks out in front of my neighbour's lawn, and still thinking of the days when that rock wall went up almost to my hips, I backed into it with the rounded top of the stones touching my calves and stopping before the back of my knees; backing into them, I assumed if I put my weight against it, I would be braced, but instead my legs coiled and bent over at the knee with my full weight and part of the bin's coming down. My back and spine hit the stone, and what kept me from falling entirely on my back was the impact of the back of my skull and neckbone against the heavy, sturdy metal Toronto Heritage planted-sign firmly embedded in my neighbour's front lawn.
I thought it entirely possible that it would result in a concussion or at least a hearty, lasting headache and a considerable amount of pain; I was apparently half right, and the latter came true. The skin across part of my back had been was slightly torn and broken, most of it by and along my spine where the vertebral bone is closest to the skin thereover. I thankfully got the groceries carried upstairs, to the fridges and downstairs to the basement freezer chest, and up to my room before the shock wore off and I was in a great deal of pain afterwards for several hours. I could barely lie on my back even to rest without it hurting, and my concentration was wholly in the Great Lavvy Bog for the rest of the day.
The good news is that I spoke to the friend and fellow Trekker whose character- a sentient, theropod and feathered sauriform resident of the Alpha Quadrant- I wanted to include in my tale of Christmas at Deep Space Nine, earlier this past evening, and she was wonderfully enthusiastic about her character sharing space with Ka'tch'Ian M'Ress (the junior Ka'tch'Ian, from the post-TNG era) aboard the station. So that I'll be going ahead with soon; I'm not in much pain now and my head is pretty much back to where it usually is. That will be my Thursday Prompt for this week, then.

I feel wonderfully good knowing the the impact of my skull with the metal sign led to no worse than a day's headache and scrambled thought; even during the forty or so minutes I was in shock before the pain kicked into higher gears I could clearly remember the impact; it was like being beside a gigantic gong being struck without the accompanying sound. I felt sure I'd did myself in far worse than I apparently had, so I'm grateful for that.
My head seems to be free of fuzziness- at least IRL, hee- and if I decide to stay up into the night this evening I'm going to start writing [i]Feet of Cait[i] tonight. Got a very nice Burger King treat for supper this evening, and I've got more than enough drinkables and a comfy warm room to write in.

Thank you kindly, good chummer Vixxyfox. Despite having a much better handle than I used to in my instinctive responses to incidents like this one, I heartily admit I was more than a little freaked out when I contemplated the entirely real possibility I had concussed myself, the first time I'd really given my skull-bone a wallop since I went over my bike handlebars more than twenty years ago. And that injury was made a world less serious because of my bike helmet, given the speed at which my bike was travelling when the reflector loosened enough to twist ninety degrees on the axis on one of my front wheel's spokes and catch both of its wings on the steering-column fairing.
So I'm in much better shape mentally and emotionally a week or so later, and definitely feeling as I usually would physically. Most of the scabbing where the skin was broken has dried to crust and fallen away, or washed off from appropriate scrubbing in the shower. I'm feeling no pain that I shouldn't expect to right now, and as I mentioned to Atomic_Alex, I plan to do a good evening's while of writing if I'm awake for a few hours further.

It's been quite a week... well, it's been months, really. But there was honestly no way I could miss this one.

And decided for some odd reason to get fancy with things.
