I was thinking about sometimes how could they be playable. I have a few ideas:
1. You can have them as a secoundary character, but you still have an inkling/octoling main character and you can switch between them.
2. With salmonids you can play regular battles and anarchy battle just as with cephalopods.
3. You could stay also salmon run, but the task would be to steal the eggs from the basket from the octarians. And you could also swim in the water surrounding the workplace but there would be a net barrier as stage edge.
4. You could dress them up for battles with one piece clothing and one accesoire.
5. When you create your salmonid oc in the beginning of game, you can choose their eye color, pupil shape, haircut and bodyshape (so yes we can have the big bellied ones but also the normal shaped ones), also the skintone. Later during the game you can still modify the haircut, pupil shape and bodyshape. And different bodyshapes would have different stats, the fat ones were slower but more hp.
6. You can swim in you ink withoit shapeshifting, because you are a fish. You also not die of falling in water but there is a barrier in it you can go past. But you die if you fall in dry deepness.
