So dang cute! ;__; Lovely job on this one!
FFXIV is fantastic, I also recommend it. Tons of great content in it and, to me, doesn't feel like other MMOs I've played which is probably why I've stuck with it for so long now.
But if you decide to take commissions for characters I'd gladly toss my hat into the ring to see my viera in your style <3

FFXIV, as well as any MMO for that matter, is a bit of a time sink, and FFXIV has about 8 years of story and content for ya to get through. Couple hours a day on just story stuff will probably take you a month or two to get through it if you do it casually.
The story's also a little slow to get started. You're obviously a no-name adventurer when you first start out, so the entirety of the base game is basically just set up for the first expansion, Heavensward. Yoshi P. and his team really played it safe with A Realm Reborn and it shows in the story, so for as much as you've heard that this game has a great story, it is very a "per expansion" kind of deal.
• A Realm Reborn (Setup)
• Heavensward (Action)
• Stormblood (More Setup/Political Intrigue)
• Shadowbringers (More Action)
• Endwalker (50/50 Action and Setup)
Endwalker, the latest expansion, is a little bit of a special case as its first part is all action since its wrapping up the OG story about the Ascians (one of the main enemy factions you fight through the story) and their legacy, then everything after it starts setting up for a new adventure! Thankfully though the team seem to have learned their lessons from ARR and this setup is a bit more interesting, centering around a new NPC and their story (So far).
If you've got the time though I def recommend giving it a try. Out of all the MMOs I've played over the last decade or so FFXIV is the only one that's managed to keep my interest. I've been playing it now for 5 years. On and off OFC. Not every day. There are some several month hiatuses in there, but every time they drop more content I come back to check it out.
It is a sub based game though, so keep that in mind. I believe the free trial comes with a month free to get you started, and all of your progress, inventory, etc all carry over. Only restriction is that you're unable to trade with other players until you own the full game.
Here's the link for the trial. This is the NA link, which IDK if you're NA or if it even makes a difference, but I assume that you could replace NA with EU or whatever depending on where you're at. FFXIV free trial (NA)
If you're on any of the NA servers I can play with ya too! I'm over on Aether, which is considered to to be the "Tryhard" server, though I've found most folk to be very friendly. Primal I'd stay away from. I came from that datacenter originally and its full of peeps that think they're better at the game than what they are. A bit toxic. Crystal is the RP datacenter, is if that's the kind of thing that you're looking to have around you 24/7 then you can make a character there. There is a datacenter travel feature up and running now, which means that you can go visit the other datacenters w/o transferring your character, so choosing what datacenter/world really just comes down to the type of environment you want as your home environment.

The free trial these days is all of ARR and HW with no time limit! Legit you can just get all the jobs that come with those two to level 60 and play every bit of content in those two parts (except PVP which is... fine, but that that important of a loss) and not pay a dime. There's even been a few folks who have, just cause they can.
And, since you get a free character change item at the end of ARR, if you really wanted to play Bunperson or big catman (still waiting on big catwoman, YoshiP :c), you can swap over once you get the rest of the game
There's also a gil/money cap, 300k. Not *that* much money, but also without being able to use retainers/market board, I don't know how big of a deal it'd actually be since you'd not be involved in big buying and selling. Though you *can* get around it if you want by buying the cheapest vendor items you can, but then you're just clogging your inventory :v
As far as I know, the difference between versions does matter, but in so far as you can't use NA banking options on an EU account, and vice versa, I could be wrong, but that's what I've been told. You could still buy and then play on an NA server if you wanted, but the extra hassle of finding a way to buy EU time :v
The big difference is between PC and Steam. Both are the exact same game, but count as difference licenses. So if you buy it for steam, you gotta use their launcher, or buy it again for the normal PC launcher. Or you can buy for PS5 if you like. Few friends who do that actually really enjoy it. But, they all go tot he same servers, so it's just a matter of how you want to handle giving them money. Steamwallet/psn/or their website.
Anyway, enough rambling. I agree with everyone else, 14 is a good game! Some folks don't like it, but that's ok! That's what the beeg free trial is for. If you play that much of the game and still ain't interested, you're just out some time. Which, still a loss, but better than 60$ for a sub then 12-15 bucks a month till you decide you're done

I will add to this that FFXIV is one of the single most respectful MMOs when it comes to events re: your personal time investment, as limited-time things either are like fifteen minutes to grind out (most events), or give you 3 months (PvP) to a year (Garo gear, also through PvP) to grind out everything if you're a completionist. Likewise its community is nontoxic as hell vs other MMOs, and it's a breath of fresh air to be somewhere so friendly and to be able to be helpful to newer players. How much time you choose to spend in the game will vary depending entirely on how much you want to spend in it instead of relying on things like FOMO. I know people who just play a few days a month on their free nights and people who make first-day raiding and progging a second full-time job.
of course not! I can make minor changes to outfit within reason and can also make new outfits for him. He certainly need not be a FF14 character or anything, I was just feeling inspired ^^ He'd also make a cute Cult of Lamb character hahaha, but yeah, if you win, let your creativity fly!
