Why do people treat me like this just because I'm asexual?
Just... why?
Vent art. Had a nasty run-in with yet another acephobe on r/furry_irl. Seriously, what is wrong with that place? The moderators took care of it but the damage has already been done. I feel like shit.
I know I shouldn't let people like that get to me, but it's kinda hard when an integral part of yourself is being attacked.

Just my opinion but it's best not to treat sexual orientation as something very important. Of course, it's an element in life, but for me orientation is the same as hair color or nose shape. Someone may not like my hair color but that's their problem. I recommend not treating it as an important element of identity. It is best to celebrate what you have a real impact on and what you have achieved. If you paint well, build an identity around that, etc.
Well, that's a rather ill-informed opinion. It's not bad to place importance on a part of one's identity, and only celebrating what someone's accomplished is a recipe to leading a life where you only look for results, rather than to live it.
And in the first place, commenting something like that on a post where Sloan just said he was insulted for speaking about this part of himself is incredibly rude. You literally just told him it's better to not mention that part of him after he got hurt because of it. Don't be ridiculous.

All I'm saying is that you shouldn't put too much emphasis on orientation. I'm not saying that seeing it as part of the identification is wrong. I just have the impression that some people identify their whole personality with orientation too much. Like, it just says who you like in bed or who you don't like. I'm Bi so I like guys and girls. The author of the drawing does not like anyone in bed, and that's all. Orientation says nothing about who you are. By looking at achievement, I meant something broader than what you're accusing me of. For me, achievement is being a good person who is good to others. Being helpful, hard-working, mentally strong, open-minded, etc. These are things that you have some kind of influence over and these are much more important elements of identity than orientation. Physical achievements like being a good artist are also much more valuable to me than orientation. For me, life is a pursuit of some goals. To live = achieve something or try to achieve something. "To live" is more than "to be." What I wanted to say is not to break down and try not to care about what other people think. Don't pay too much attention to what happened. I understand the unpleasantness and suffering caused by this and I am not indifferent to it. We just should all focus on what really means a lot, what we have achieved through our efforts and no moron will deny that. And if they does, we can prove that person wrong.
Well, that's the thing - I'm not necessarily treating it as something super-important or bringing it up everywhere, what happens on r/furry_irl is that every now and then someone posts a meme that's kind of insensitive towards asexuals specifically, and the moment anyone points that out, a bunch of jerks come out of the woodwork and accuse them of attention seeking, or worse, claiming that "whining about it delegitimizes actual forms of discrimination".
Because they know nothing and assume that they know. This is plain and simply ignorance imo, if only some could take just a little time to think '' Hey, what if asexuality can exist'' it would be so much simple :(
Anyway know that I see you, and for what it's worth, try not to let those guys into your head to much. Emotions comes from the inside not the outside, you can decide how you want to feel more thant you think :)

I don't really care... For me, your sexual preferences or their absence do not bother me and do not concern me. This is something that should be behind closed bedroom doors, and society should be indifferent.
This is my point of view and opinion.
I cannot say whether it is correct or not, because in fact it does not give any advantages... unless you're looking for a sexual partner.
In general, you can score on their opinion and attitude... but do not cross the boundaries of reason yourself.

Sloan, I feel you so hard. As someone who took a long time to discover that I was ace and was constantly worried about what people would think of me and assume I was broken...it hurts.
But just know that you are valid for who you are. Nothing can take that away and I am so sorry that you've had to go through dealing with ignorance like that. You are loved and you are amazing as you are.
