I think it's one of the sexiest and most sensible ways of looking at it.
Why else would the young prince be a total brat and psycho? No parents to rein him in. And his title comes from somewhere, so Dad is probably absentee or hot garbage.
Hence, daddy issues. Maurice despite his lack of financial means, is a great, loving, caring, nurturing soul. So he's Big Daddy, and Beast becomes younger Daddy-Disciple. Belle now has 2 dads, one experienced, one apprenticing under his mentor, and plump warm hole.
